Last time we were in the news, it was because someone stole Baby Jesus our of our Nativity scene and painted it black. That made it to CNN. This probably won't, but still interesting.

Living Word Astrology for 11/13 to 11/15/09

11/13/09

Just past Jupiter’s recent square to the Sun is Chiron’s square, which of course means that Neptune’s is coming up on Sunday. Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune are all bunched up in Aquarius so what happens to one happens to all for the relatively near future. This 90° angle indicates Chiron stealing the spotlight and making a spectacle of himself. Chiron and Aquarius both share a lean towards vigilanteism, so it’s not uncommon to find people insisting on and drawing attention to their independence and free will. There’s nothing wrong with being a maverick, but folks will wonder just how unique you are if you seem to need their approval – or derision –to validate your identity. Focus on putting your best foot forward.

At the same time, Venus in Scorpio makes a sesquisquare to the Juno/Uranus conjunction out in Pisces. This aspect is a wonderful channel for that Sun-Chiron thing, since it hints at demonstrating your affection and appreciation for your loved ones in personal and surprising ways. Unlike some of the other Venus aspects recently, this one is more public so be aware that PDA isn’t just a piece of technology today! You’re not so much demonstrating for your loved one as you are for everyone else, so let your exhibitionist side out to play. (no, not that one.. well, okay maybe that one, too, I suppose. It’s included but that’s not really what I mean) Just like people newly in love can’t seem to shut up about each other, so we are encouraged to make known our relationship with God and His greatness. Today’s devotional, 1 Timothy 6:11-16, does just that in words no less flowery and over-the-top than any sappy romance movie.

11/14/09

Venus moves off an aspect to Juno/Uranus just as the Sun moves into one – this time a trine or 120° angle. In many ways, this is a continuation of yesterday’s Venus aspect, but brighter so perhaps you should put into effect the idea you came up with yesterday or take a second chance if you missed it. It’s the perfect blend of individuality and integration – that mystic place where two become one and yet are still each distinct. Also, Jupiter picks up a trine from Pallas; this aspect is all about strategic growth, exploiting the weaknesses of the competition and political maneuvering. I bet we see some extended sessions of Congress between Friday and Monday, watch for legislation passed on weekends. It’s a fine day to bust out the chessboard or any other highly strategic/intellectual game to hone your skill. Some also associate Pallas with crafts and artisanship, so you could be able to get a lot done on one of your sewing or scrapbooking projects as well. Today’s devotional is Jeremiah 29:11-14, but for extra credit and perspective, read the whole chapter.

11/15/09

There is a HECK of a lot going on today, so much so in fact that I’m going to split it between today and Monday, so make sure you come back to this again after you listen to next Monday’s show since many of the aspects overlap and will still be in play. The important stuff to look at today is Mercury’s entrance into Sagittarius, whereupon it makes a square or 90° angle to Vesta which itself just ducked into Virgo. If you go on my website, and look at my Planetary Keywords PDF, you’ll see that I give Vesta affinity with Cancer – I’m kind of in a minority here. Many others think its main sign is Virgo. The jury’s still out on that one, so Vesta may or may not be going into its ‘home’ sign. Anyway, Mercury in Sagittarius is the cartographer, the scribe and the commentator. While Mercury is here, it indicates a change in mental attitude from research and secluded focus to reporting, mapping and producing. If you have a press release, today’s a pretty good day to let it loose. Think in broad categories and generalizations, handling problems more in theory and letting the application work itself out. The start, though is a little bumpy with this Vesta square. In a way, it’s like starting out a business without enough venture capital; great ideas, nothing to back them up. Make absolutely sure today and tomorrow that presentations and proposals contain content and make use of all that investigating you did back in Scorpio. Futhermore, the Sun reaches the square point that Mercury hit a few days back (as I’m writing this script, actually). Don’t expect people to just magically understand you today – there’s a tendency to leave gaps missing and assume people will fill them on their own. Not so much. Bring everything down to a very simple level if you have to and don’t assume your audience’s background knowledge. There are several times in the New Testament where the Apostles lay into the audience, calling them infants for not grasping basic spiritual truths, instead getting caught up in ‘worldly’ debates. The clearest and also the shortest of these is today’s devotional, 1 Peter 2:1-3.

Living Word Astrology for 11/09 to 11/11/09

11/09/2009

It seems pretty rare recently that I get away with only aspect on a day. It has to happen every once in a while though and amazingly enough, two such days occur in this episode – a lone Venus-Pluto sextile defines today. This 60° angle between the two is an aspect of responsibilty, duty and domestic interests. Venus is accepting a mission, if you will, to go out and do Pluto’s transforming work. It’s an excellent time to marshall money or relationships towards grass-roots change, such as beginning therapy or donating to a political action group. Sometimes it pays off to save; other days, it pays to go in whole hog. It’s a well-established concept in the Christian faith, with Matthew 13:44 as a good example. The kingdom of heaven is populated by people who have found a worthy cause and devoted everything toward furthering that cause. Consider to what change you want to direct your attention as you read today’s devotional, Matthew 13:44-46.

11/10/2009

Another day with multiple aspects – the Sun in Scorpio squares Jupiter in Aquarius; then Mercury in Scorpio squares Chiron in Aquarius and trines Juno in Pisces. First, the Sun-Jupiter square. While we usually define opening and closing squares as faster-moving to slower-moving planets, the Sun is always the fixed planet in an aspect, so it’s better described as a closing square from Jupiter to the Sun rather than the other way around. Jupiter in Aquarius is the expansion of the isolated, the civilization of the fringe and the increase of the humanitarian. It’s the placement that calls for universal health care from the Democrats(now passed in the House), Sarah Palin-style ‘sexy conservatism’ from the Republicans and then pretty much anything and everything said by both Glenn Beck and Alex Jones. Today, Jupiter is too solar – it’s too bright and too self-important. Over-the-top propaganda and wild speculation is the order of the day. The truth is there, but it can be hard to find the needle in the haystack. Do your research (Scorpio) to sort out the truth from the spin.

On the same token, Mercury’s closing square to Chiron indicates overworking of old garbage. Mercury tries to keep digging the same old skeletons out of everyone’s closets and refuses to forgive old trespasses. It simply doesn’t know when to stop poking its nose around into things it has no business with. The opening trine coming from Juno, however, suggests that intentions are benevolent. If someone opens up to you, feel free to dive deep and really lay hold of the secrets revealed. Abstain from poking around for your own edification, though. It can be all too easy to accidentally spill salt in a tender wound. Luke 17:4 sets a very high bar for forgiveness – not impossible, but high. What grudges do you hold that God reminds you of when you read today’s devotional, Luke 17:3-6.

11/11/2009

Mercury continues to zip through aspect after aspect, this time connecting to Neptune by closing square. Be careful of muddled or hazy thinking since Mercury is foregoing its natural strengths of analysis and logic in favor of Neptune’s mysticism, insight and illusions. Conversely, the day is colored by strong optimism and the ability to effectively communicate things that may seem absurd or obscure. Double-check any detail-oriented work and remove all unnecessary distractions. Additionally, take some extra time to meditate, pray or do whatever spiritual communion moves you. Today’s devotional is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-24.

Living Word Astrology for 11/06 to 11/08/09

11/06/2009

Fun things happen when Venus and Uranus come together in a biquintile, or 144° angle. Venus is the avatar of everything valued – so love, money, security, etc. Uranus on the other hand represents irony, rebellion, innovation and anything ‘remixed’ or ‘retro.’ What’s old is often new again with Uranus involved, though it doesn’t always share its storied past up-front. Instead, it arrives as a flash of serendipity or chance occurrence and in a slightly different guise than the last time you saw it so as to remain fresh and novel. This is the artist’s dream aspect. The light catches a face in a certain way or the band plays the song in a different key, something just a little bit new and creative that sets the mind racing and the heart beating. A coworker of mine has a shirt that says “I’m not a player, I just crush a lot” – that’s this biquintile personified. Enjoy the lightheartedness and whimsy that this aspect signals; reside fully in the moment. You can be a little childlike or hedonistic today and it probably won’t hurt anything. Matthew 18:3 reveals that faith like a child is a prerequisite to entering the kingdom of heaven. What that means exactly has been debated for far longer than any of us have been alive, though perhaps firsthand exploration of the concept will shed light on the topic for you. Today’s devotional is Matthew 18:1-5.

11/07/2009

Venus joins Mercury and the Sun in Scorpio this morning, increasing the Scorpionic influence in the world, specifically in the areas of charisma and acquisition. People are more drawn to the intense, the secretive and the taboo so playing the 'dark, mysterious stranger' angle can be helpful in certain situations. The ubiquitous Edward from the Twilight series comes to mind here. Where the Sun's placement has to do with basic mood and how people go about doing things, Venus represents the reward or goal of activities. Leverage hidden knowledge and transformative experience to draw people toward you - just be careful to not cross the line into Scorpio's shadow side: manipulation.

In order to talk about today’s other aspect, I have to clue you in on something coming up in about a week – a Saturn-Pluto square. This is a closing square (that is, Saturn is approaching Pluto), meaning that Saturn is excessively Plutonian. It would be balanced in an opposition and understated in an opening square, just to continue the picture. Anyway, Pluto is itself the symbol of excess, extremes and paradigm shift, so we’re looking at an excessively excessive Saturn. It’s about absolute endings and unrelenting power. I’ll talk more about the square when it actually peaks, but be aware that the influence is slowly creeping to a maximum. Now Mercury moves to the halfway point of this square today, residing 45° away from each of the two outer planets. If you imagine Saturn and Pluto like teeth, Mercury is caught in the jaws of this square and is thus oppressed by it. Be particularly careful of what you say to people today as you may be burning your bridges far quicker than you might expect. Also, be nice if your boss snaps at you –an incredible of amount of downward pressure is being exerted on hierarchies and if you can recognize, honor and then diffuse it at your level, so much the better for everyone. There can be an almost authoritarian refusal to think outside the box or question authority. If you ask too many questions, you may just bring down the thunder, so be prepared. It’s important to understand that Mars is not involved here – the isue isn’t anger or dominance or personal power trips. If you’re familiar with Six Sigma theory, or Lean Manufacturing, that’s what we’re talking about here. It’s the weight of conventional wisdom, efficiency and maybe a little fear of the unknown as opposed to ego so don’t take stuff personally. Romans 13:1 suggests that God has put in place all authorities on earth and so by obyeing them, we are obeying God. Hold that thought for now as you read today’s devotional, Romans 13:1-7.

11/08/2009

Mercury streaks through a fast closing square (or 90°) to Jupiter today. This signifies a situation that all is talk and no action - bluster without backup. While you may make light, amusing small talk it can be difficult to really get to the meat of a topic. Particular emphasis may be paid to being politically correct or quantity over quality. A high quantity of friendly, shallow conversation can be fun and relaxing, but be prepared to speak curtly if you have a point you need to make.

On the complete other side of the coin, the Sun slips into the jaws of that Saturn-Pluto square that Mercury occupied yesterday. Whereas yesterday’s issue was primarily information or communication, today’s issue is primarily one of practice or application. Yesterday, it was a problem if you disagreed with the rules. Today, you can disagree so long as you follow them anyway. Individuality is discouraged at best and so unless you enjoy the conflict, might as well just keep your head down and ride it out. It’s a pretty short aspect and a weekend. Probably not worth getting too worked up about. Today’s devotional is Romans 8:28-30.
