Many of our members have their diary privacy options set to public and they also allow unsigned notes so that anyone on the Internet (even someone without a diary) can to leave a note if they wish.
Sadly this has also meant that automated spam bots will try and leave links and other such messages and although we do block known IPs, this hasn't always been successful.
We've now added in a CAPTCHA code so that if anyone not on Open Diary tries to leave an unsigned note, they will also be required to supply the correct code. We are aware this won't be 100% foolproof as there are people who make a living out of spamming websites, but it should help considerably with the automated notes.
If you are logged in then you won't notice any difference and leaving an unsigned notes will be exactly the same as before (assuming that the diary owner allows them!).
While we appreciate all your notes, If you require assistance, please contact us via the help link in the top-right of every page as this is the fastest way to receive a reply.

REMEMBER: Insulting, degrading, or otherwise offensive notes are strictly forbidden. Any such notes will be deleted by our staff, and will result

I bypass that all together and only accept signed notes. If someone isn't willing to stand up for their words, they can't leave a comment in my forum.

I get a lot of unsigned porn spam, I mean notes with porn urls. Every few weeks I get like three in a row. However, I do like to leave my diary open to all notes, open being the first word in open diary. Thank you for the CAPTCHA and for leaving the unsigned notes from registered members alone. [haredawg]

My diary is only open to OD members, but I am still glad you've made this change for those who prefer being more public about their diaries. They shouldn't have to put up with this spam crap. Nobody should. [The Rickster]

I have an idea... why don't we have a mobile version of open diary? There are times that I want to update, but have been unable to because the scripting for the body won't operate on mobile devices... What can we do to fix that? [KissableChemistry]

I only accept signed notes. Recently I'm getting lots of SPAM notes, from people who've made diaries but don't have entries for me to report their annoyances...

Thank you for all that you are doing to make our diaries safe. I only allow signed notes on my diary but I have seen nasty notes on those who choose to allow unsigned notes [myserenity]
