Let all the earth be silent before Him.
In our growth group we learned to stop talking at God for a while but instead take a long hard look at Him before We speak another Word.
Solomon warned us not to rush into God's presence with words...that's what fools do.
Just as it is a good thing to wait about five minutes after you've finished praying before leaving, so it is just as important to wait and be quiet before Him before saying one word.

Too often I approach prayer as a given and throw requests at God without giving Him a second thought.

But listen to what Solomon says:
As you enter the house of God, keep your ears open and your mouth shut. It is evil to make mindless offerings to God. 2 [b]Don’t make rash promises, and don’t be hasty in bringing matters before God. After all, God is in heaven, and you are here on earth. So let your words be few.

Watch your step when you enter God's house.
Enter to learn. That's far better than mindlessly offering
a sacrifice,

Doing more harm than good.

Don't shoot off your mouth, or speak before you think.
Don't be too quick to tell God what you think he wants to hear.
God's in charge, not you—the less you speak, the better.

I'm learning that we are slow to listen, quick to speak, and quick to become angry.
The wise man comes to God without saying a word and stands in awe of Him.

Ecclesiastes 5:1-2

I am going over some notes from our studies about prayer.

We can describe just about anything or anyone but God?
We cannot describe Him
We cannot explain Him
We cannot exaggerate Him.
If asked to describe God you would be wrong whatever your answer is because

He has already has an identity
He has a name.

Pharoh asked Moses who his God was...He was about to find out.
We don't get to decide who God is
God said to Moses in Exodus 3:14 "I Am Who I Am."
We don't get to change that. [TERMINATOR]

Who would want too? [Tuffy] 8/8/2012 7:37:46 AM
An excellent entry! I am guilty of saying pretty much the same things to God, and it seems am always asking His forgiveness. But, I am growing hopefully! Am very mudh in awe of Him! Love, Liz

Excellent. It's easy to get into a routine when praying and basically say the same things over and over. While on the one hand, it's good to be in the habit of praying, it's not good to make our actual prayers a habit. I really like the idea of approaching God in silence, taking a pause for several minutes, getting into the frame of mind of feeling his presence and stopping to actually THINK about what I want to say, then pausing afterward to listen for answers. It should be a conversation, not a dialogue. This is a good reminder. [Starting Over] 8/8/2012 8:38:40 AM
I second the excellent...and add an Amen! [commonsensechristian] 8/8/2012 8:46:54 AM
"it is just as important to wait and be quiet before Him before saying one word."

They that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. They will mount up with wings as eagles. They will run and not be weary, they will walk and will not faint.

Because in that silence He speaks, and when He speaks Life happens. Without human effort. Beautiful. [Eyes in the mirror]
