Cost Of Living

D'ya think there's something wrong with me?
I don't seem to be getting anywhere these days
Does it seem like something's the matter with my mind?
I don't seem to be getting more coherent as I go along
Life and death, such a beautiful union of opposites
Love and pain, you look so much prettier than I remember

Clinging to ideals of perfect living
Seems to be working better for the smaller audience
What matters is not always what we feel
Sometimes it seems to matter less than what we believe
Laughter and tears, make for such a pretty picture
Joy and sorrow, I'm sure we'll all feel better some day

Even the best lie you ever told someone to make them stay
Is just to cover up the fact that you don't wanna be the one to walk away
But just like the song says "everybody's gotta learn sometime"
Sometimes it just seems to me that we'll never ever learn our lessons
Life and lessons, the lessonplan's always lost in the mail
Friends and enemies, there's no telling who'll hurt you the most

Hanging on to words like it's the last shred of life we got
Words can be just as empty as lives sometimes appear to be
Things are not as they seem, life cannot be both a lie and a dream
Abandoning all hope'll never make you whole, but only make the end come nearer
Silence and chaos, the perfect fit for a fighting mind
Lovers and silence, no one good thing comes without a bad

The more you think you know, the less you're in control
Balance is everything, but sometimes you've gotta risk falling
The cost of living is losing some and finding something else instead
If you ever get a chance, put that smile back on your face again
Lies and truth, we're all coming from the same starting point
Faith and belief, you look less lost than when first met

Do I dare to think there's something wrong with anyone
My judgment of people has been somewhat off as of late
Strangers, lovers, friends, people, everybody comes and goes
I do dare say, the cost of living can take its toll
Acceptance and denial, both leading to a state of bliss
You and life, don't you honestly want some of it?
