Heart's Blood

Ups and Downs 5/31/2012

Things have been fairly good, I guess. I got a lot done at work yesterday, and generally felt a bit better, but things changed a bit in the evening. On the drive home, my heart started to feel odd again, and when I got home, I was rather dizzy, and laid down for a bit, and felt like I had been punched very hard in the chest. I had planned to make stir fry last night, but just didn't feel well, or up to cooking. Megan didn't feel like cooking either, and instead wanted to go to the rum bar (I told her it was good), so I figured that would be fine. We went there, and Jim met us there. There wasn't much parking, but we eventually found a place. It was much more busy for dinner than it was for lunch. We waited a little while to get a table outside, and were eventually seated. We ordered some food. I got a drink I had been interested in (but probably should have just stuck to the mojito), and Megan wanted to try some of their guacamole, and Jim wanted to try their salsa. We got one of each, since they weren't super expensive, and then ordered our food. Megan got the mushroom dish Matt had gotten the other day, and I got something called slow cooked chicken, which said it was spicy. As it turned out, Megan's mushroom was too spicy for her, but my chicken was so mild even she didn't find it spicy. Luckily, Megan was able to switch with Jim (and it was nice of him to switch). My chicken was good... though actually saying what it was, it sounds kind of odd. It starts with a crisp corn cake (called an arepa), then had a layer of fried plantains, then some pulled chicken, a garlic mayonnaise drizzle, and mint leaves (and I think there was some parsley, as well) on top. It was an odd looking thing, but tasted good, and I enjoyed it. I shared a bit with Megan, and had a few bites of her beans (they seemed like the most heart-healthy thing there, and I hadn't had any). We were pretty full when we finished (Megan took some home, but Jim and I finished ours), and declined to get any dessert. We did wait to pay the bill for a good long while (I think the waitress might have been on a lunch break or something). As the sun went down, we were being eaten alive by mosquitos, and I started to have a sore feeling in my throat and nasal passages. That never turns out well. We went home, and I finished off the orange juice, and made myself a cup of green tea with honey and some lemon. I brought some water with me to bed, and drank a fair amount of that... then proceeded to sleep poorly. That was partly from feline interference, but also from having to go to the bathroom a fair amount, and just having trouble falling back asleep. We got up early today, because Megan had something important to do at work, so I decided to get up rather than sleep in. I also had some important things to do, so I didn't really consider staying home for very long. I took a shower, in hopes that the continued soreness in my nasal passages was just from dehydration, but it only helped so much. While in the shower, I enjoyed the heat... and felt cold... which is usually a sure sign I am getting sick (or am already sick). I got to thinking about this sickness and my heart thing, and amidst thinking they might be connected, I started thinking of them in terms of chi. My symptoms could be explained by having too much yin chi, and needing to get more yang chi. All of my symptoms map to that model, so I'll give that a try, since it's been somewhat mysterious, otherwise. I've been trying to enhance the yang chi today, with limited success, since I still kind of feel awful. Perhaps I'll try more energy-based work, or some things that don't rely on feeling a certain way... I'm debating whether I should go for my walk today. I don't feel great, but I don't really end up exerting myself all that much while on the walk (though it is hot today), and going for a walk does generally make me feel better afterwards... and would be active, to enhance my yang chi. I'm maybe leaning towards giving it a try, but not pushing myself if it becomes more grueling.

Other than that, things are okay. I need to find time to wrap Megan's presents (and some of them have yet to come, which is somewhat worrisome), and straighten up the house (perhaps some more laundry would be good, as well). Other than that, I think I just need to figure out some fun things to do this weekend....
