Chapter: OD Here and Now
Type That's Not Moving (NJM9)
Monday, November 09, 2009

"I can't believe we raised Bobby for twelve years without the Internet.  Parents without the Internet should have their children taken away." - Peggy Hill

I stuck that in here, because I thought it would be a good start on an entry about how some parents misuse information they find online to mess up their kids - but ten minutes later, I got nothin'.

I'm spinning my wheels on this one - I gave myself a deadline of going to sleep by 2 tonight, and that's only twelve minutes away.

I'm going to change my diary colors - I'm tired of green, I'm thinking maybe a mixture of blues might be more pleasant. I'm also tired of the leaves on my pages - although I remember thinking they were kind of peaceful when I first put them up (many moons ago).  I'm also thinking I'm going to change my profile picture - I love my Jedi Domo-kun, but I'm feeling his time has passed.  I can't remember the last time I changed my diary style - it's been years, for sure.

Not the most exciting news, but there it is.

You know, if someone had told Johannes Gutenberg in 1469 that his movable type would someday evolve into writing hammered out by machines, and that would evolve into text that appeared on magic screens, and that would evolve into published words flying around the world invisibly and letting people write to each other from anywhere in the world, and THAT would evolve into somebody like me typing out an entry full of drivel like this 540 years later - he might have tossed his printing press right out the window.

Yeah, well - two o'clock.  More exciting entry tomorrow!

Wow to see new colors here would be crazy. Havent you had the same layout and colors since forever? [Uncertain Tragedy] 11/10/2009 2:10:46 AM
Oh wow I got the first note too, sweet! [Uncertain Tragedy] 11/10/2009 2:11:07 AM
I find it amazing on a smaller level to watch my 5, soon to be 6 year old, daughter cracking the code of reading. That look in her face when she realized that the single types can make words!  [Shesolovely] 11/10/2009 2:11:38 AM
You make me have faith in the humor capabilities of middle-aged men. [The Alternate] 11/10/2009 2:11:39 AM
It's going to be really weird to have a new look here...I was just thinking the other day that I have a fave who has had the exact same looking diary for the entire time she's been here, and how reassuring and peaceful it is to visit her diary and see it looking the same.

whats up with the ad that it takes 10 tries to get rid of. I thought thats what we paid for no advetising. [Choices] 11/10/2009 2:19:31 AM
The DM changing his diary colours? That's like...revolutionary! I'm sure you've been these colours my whole life on OD, and I've been here 5 years. Wow.

I had never heard or seen Domo until I stumbled upon your diary so many years ago. I think you had the image with Domo and the kitties. To me Domo and DM go hand in hand! lol.

But as they say, a change is as good as a holiday! [jessicah]
11/10/2009 2:19:46 AM
I'm always changing my diary colors/layout... In fact, one of my personal NoJoMo challenges is to keep the same layout all month. It's a real struggle too! *laughs*

Sometimes a change really does do you good though. :) Whatever you decide to "experiment" with, I hope it goes well and that you're pleased with the results!!

And now I'm off to bed...I gave myself a 2 AM deadline to be in bed by tonight also...only I still have 30 minutes left on my clock. SCORE! *laughs*

Take good care! [Phoenix Seraph]
11/10/2009 2:32:34 AM
Honestly I liked the Domo picture with the kitty better than the Jedi one.

I haven't changed my diary in years either. Yes I am boring LOL [offmychest]
11/10/2009 2:32:50 AM
i like tones of blue too. its hard to invisibly write if your background isnt one of the pre-made colors. you can slightly see it.

my stream of consciousness is changing states. gaining substance through technology. before all this noone else would have known or seen these things. [mynameis...]
11/10/2009 2:58:56 AM
excited to see your diary makeover! [desserae] 11/10/2009 3:09:18 AM
I can't really remember when you last had another colour scheme. Mad! x [Barnslig_Flodhast] 11/10/2009 3:54:19 AM
CHANGE IT! change it! change it!
I haven't liked coming to your page, it's like fighting my way through a jungle of green.
SO. DO IT!

I was thinking while having my hair done, getting those pure bliss head massage why isnt their a circle for plain and simple sex? I understand you have love and passion...But why not a adult only (to cover your arse) circle where people can put entries about what does it for them, or the rude and dirty things they get up too. Or just thoughts. I often post random entries about porn and can never [Turn the page] 11/10/2009 6:14:50 AM
think of a circle to put it in? Anyway, just an idea =]
Let me know what you think pretty please xxx [Turn the page]
11/10/2009 6:15:30 AM
ooh, looking forward to the new colours.
I had those leaves as my menu background for a year or so when I first started writing here, I really like the leaves too, except they're hard to match with other colours. Whenever I see leaves that look like that out in the real world I can't help but feel a little nostalgic, although I'm just sappy like that :) [Many Roads]
11/10/2009 6:16:08 AM
I think a change is always nice. It takes a little getting used to but then it will feel normal to you. Loved the entry!!! [FRIDAY'S CHILD] 11/10/2009 7:02:13 AM
Ha! Love the Gutenberg paragraph.  :-)   [MegaLady] 11/10/2009 8:03:10 AM
Yeah, I think the world might spin off it's axis when I come to read your clever "drivel" and there are no more leaves, no more green (I mean, is there REALLY a better color?) and no more Jedi Domo-kun. [~wc] 11/10/2009 8:18:43 AM
Changing diary colours is such a wrench though... I've been pink for years and years! [Grenouille] 11/10/2009 8:22:46 AM
My daughter has been online since she was 2.5-3 years old. Gotta start 'em young, ya know? :P [Just Brianna] 11/10/2009 8:23:03 AM
I liked the end bit.
It made me smile because I talk like that sometimes. (:
I can't wait to see the new colours.

Interesting. [Woman of many hats..] 11/10/2009 8:35:24 AM
blues are nice...I love changing my diary..one of my favorite things about this site..I probably change my diary once a month..and I have faves who change DAILY!  [SaFireMoon] 11/10/2009 9:13:06 AM
Haven't you had a very scary looking profile picture? And a potato too? Or is my old mind playing funny tricks on me again.... [oldchezza] 11/10/2009 9:14:13 AM
Oooh, I always love new looks. And you know that quote is interesting - I'm right on the bridge of the internet generation and when it goes down - I have NO IDEA what to do with myself. Its sad kind of - how we've become SO DEPENDENT on it. [PrincessLeia] 11/10/2009 9:22:36 AM
I think the first thing that would blow Gutenberg's mind would be the literacy rate.  [Achaia] 11/10/2009 9:43:41 AM
been here a long time gonna be interesting to see your new look :) I'm sure your gonna try several before you find one that does the trick

and yea the internet I think my dad would have flipped
computers yea he knew they exsisted but they were business
things not personal..lol he hated me using a calculator
said they made pencil and paper for doing math! he refused
to ... [Ladyhawk]
11/10/2009 9:49:27 AM
Now try going back in time and telling Johannes Gutenberg, Alexander Graham Bell and Johann Zahn that someday in the future their three inventions would be crammed into one tiny device where any given owner can take a photo, type out a description about it and float it through the air to the phone someone else is talking on. [the Karyn] 11/10/2009 9:49:47 AM
buy one when I needed one in HS. and years later when my step sisters/brothers needed them they had to fight him about it can't imagine What he would say about his grandkids being able to operate one as young as 5 lol [Ladyhawk] 11/10/2009 9:51:09 AM
it has been a long time since you've adjusted your diary sty'e. go for it!!! take care, [gray tabby] 11/10/2009 9:59:16 AM
I think that *is* exciting news, but it will be tough for us to get used to. Maybe the leaves symbolised the growth and evolution of OD and now you could have a bg image of something more stable, a foundation of some sort, or stone, or a big giant boulder that can never be destroyed? hehee
Green is the colour of money though, so you might wanna keep that in some way.
 [oobi]
11/10/2009 10:02:09 AM
Wow, I'm excited about the new layout!!  [IndigoMorning.] 11/10/2009 10:22:20 AM
Change is good. Though I like your Jedi Domo-kun. I don't know how you do it though I can't go more than a couple of months without changing my diary style. [RebelTearDrops] 11/10/2009 10:33:32 AM
I've been writing here since 2001, and I don't honestly think you've ever had different colors than these. Go on with ya bad self and change things up! [Tranquility] 11/10/2009 10:46:33 AM
Changes? Are you trying to stress us out? ;o) [Mirror_rorriM] 11/10/2009 11:32:29 AM
Whoa...whoa...whoa....change? No!!!!!

Ok, I joke..cant wait to see the new place.

Oh, and I love King of the Hill.  [Nin]
11/10/2009 12:24:55 PM
You're going to change your diary style?? Hold on! I'll contact Fox News first. :D

lmao, i'm sure he would have chucked it! that's all very scarey to think about now, much less 540 yrs ago! [~!~Saraqael~!~] 11/10/2009 1:31:10 PM
But I love your Yoda Domo-kun! It's awesome! lol  [Hime] 11/10/2009 1:39:28 PM
I think the last time you changed your pic was sometime around the time that OD layout 2.0 came around, or shortly there after. Yes, its been a WHILE. :) [‡blank‡] 11/10/2009 2:18:05 PM
We should be very thankful that Gutenberg never saw us "evil doers" in his future! [Zenith] 11/10/2009 4:02:39 PM
i enjoy changing the colors of my diary every once in a while, it feels refreshing.  [MoonHat] 11/10/2009 4:51:18 PM
I'm anxiously awaiting the new colors and new picture....I, personally, love to change the colors and profile pix and keep up with the seasons. It's fun and that's the only reason...:) [CheshireCat] 11/10/2009 5:51:00 PM
Thanks. Peace. [IntoxicatingPsycosis] 11/10/2009 6:27:40 PM
You've had the leaves for years!!! It will be weird but welcomed!!!

 [getalife] 11/10/2009 8:39:33 PM
Hey hope all is well with U! I'm having Some trouble creating another Diary PLEASE HELP! :-) [MahoganyJazz] 11/10/2009 8:58:51 PM
can't wait to see what you come up with for a new layout! [moongate] 11/10/2009 9:53:02 PM
You are still yellow green leaves on a turquoise green background. And it is now 1930 the following day. :) [Georgette] 11/10/2009 10:35:40 PM
Can't wait to see the new look :) I've been thinking it is time for a change myself :) [Asillia Magdalene] 11/11/2009 12:10:52 AM
I always thought the leaves looked a bit too cannibas-esque for my liking. [Rodge] 11/11/2009 2:24:50 AM
brown, red autumny :) [MissJ] 11/11/2009 6:55:53 AM
What made me sad about that quote is that I've heard real life parents say something similar. How dependent we've gotten on the technology that surrounds us. Dependent to the point of believing we are incapable of surviving without it!
~rory

11/11/2009 12:09:06 PM
I remember being surprised when you rolled out the "new" layout complete with profile pics. I'm still using classic myself (or as much as I can hold on to) but the profile pic is nice. :)

I love green but I'm biased to blue as well, but you may be relived to know that both are "relaxing" colors! [AloneAngel]
11/13/2009 5:36:08 AM
I like to think Gutenberg is somewhere out there, having a laugh at what his important invention has become. I mean, in his day, there were no blogs, and porn amounted to showing an ankle or the nape of one's neck! --- [Anon1965] 11/14/2009 7:34:06 AM
Yes, I used to change my diary style all the time, and I guess it's that time, again. (Although I notice you wrote this a week ago. Fingers gone cold?)

I like your tracing of historical print from Gutenburg down through the ages straight to OD. But surely OD is NOT a sign of universal drivel, nor is this entry. Hey, even though I consider Twitter the most apt pretender to that throne of drivel, it was the most helpful during the Iranian election riots, yes? So, I think context is all, medium is NOT *just* the message. [April Fool]
11/15/2009 9:36:08 PM
I would really prefer you kept the jedi domo-kun, even if you restyled your OD in other ways!
