Flags Against the Sky.

I brought up several pieces of art yesterday we hadn’t displayed in years. One small piece of mine, which looked really good next to a big one, turned out to have a high acid matt that turned ocher. Another print that I really cherished had turned brown. More high acid paper this time on an officially approved big name piece.

You can hear me growling.

We have more art than we can see at one time, and often it get’s damaged in storage or in transit. I’m not a rich and popular painter, tho I was for a while, and when I was younger I used any frame and glass I could get. Yesterday I noted another piece that needs to get new glass because of poor initial fit. The glass must have been bigger than the frame. The frame is a good one, but it too needs surgery.

My assistant framer may be feeling better, but right now he’s only good for going to sleep after work. I’ll put that big piece back into storage, and hope we can get it fixed next year. Right now it is more important to cut the stress for my assistant.

  • Keeping those on the east coast in my thoughts and donating where it will count.

  • Himself: Said first things this morning, “I think I’m better.”

  • Herself: Water aerobics, mostly finished the living room, and took one painting to the framers as the matt had turned ochre.

  • Reading: Finished the Tad Williams. Trying to stop reading for a while as my vision is all about over-tired eyes. Thinking about going through the moldy Sci Fi and getting rid of them. The big house shared it’s mold with everything we owned.

  • Balance: Reading and both NCIS’s.

I had eye strain this weekend. [LightButHearty] 11/14/2012 10:19:33 AM
I'm sorry to hear about the problems with the art! Very good to hear that G is getting better. [BonnieRose] 11/14/2012 10:28:40 AM

You're right-living art aka your assistant comes first. Still, so sad to suffer damage from acid. [zipster] 11/14/2012 12:06:42 PM

Frustrating that the frames of some of your art has deteriorated. Hopefully all can be restored, in time. [Arbi] 11/14/2012 3:11:52 PM
Our "original art" consists of some landscapes in oils that Husband painted (hanging in his bedroom) and two floral oils painted by his mother (actually by his mother's art teacher with a couple of daubs by his mother). They were framed correctly. Husband's beautiful photographs (about 3'x4') were not framed correctly and have begun to wrinkle. We had one redone properly. It was expensive, but worth it. We're on the brink of doing two more, but our good framer has closed his business and we must look for another. -- actually, one of his mothers paintings has a frame so ornate that looking at it is like eating raw sugar. I makes me want to gag. It's hung in a hallway I don't use - tastes are not always identical. :-) [KatrenCoyote] 11/14/2012 3:50:44 PM
I've seen your pictures of your art hanging on your wall, and they're lovely. Hope you can preserve them. [TrilliumZen] 11/14/2012 4:17:32 PM
I just purchased a nice painting of the home town to give to my wife for Christmas (ssshhhhh!) I'll try to get it a proper frame. [Peter's Shadow] 11/14/2012 4:55:44 PM
I'm glad the assistant is feeling better.  [woman in the moon] 11/14/2012 7:33:26 PM

That's too bad about your artwork being damaged. Happy to hear G is getting better. [gel] 11/15/2012 12:11:03 AM
You're right, our paintings change with age exactly like we do - yellowing, wrinkling, spotting, drooping. Hmm.
Never occurred to me before./ G is working??? [TickTockTickTock]

Oy! sorry to hear about the damage. Nothing beats your tender loving care to your assistant. Hope he will improve soon.  [the_mysticalmuse] 11/15/2012 6:52:39 AM
