Holiday Boutique Peeks, 2012.
All year, the sorters in the back room separate out the holiday things. There’s a bin for Valentine’s Day, another for Halloween, still another for the 4th of July, and of course there are rows of December bins with Santa’s and menorah’s sitting side by side.
Bill and I had gone in at 0830 in the morning and priced all the unpriced bins filled with last minute donations. We finished at noon. These bins build up over the year. First one upstairs room is filled with holiday bins, then a next, and finally a third. By three in the afternoon the store filled with volunteers ready to set up the store for the boutique.
Yesterday it was all excavated out or down into a giant pile in the middle of the store by three thirty. Two years ago it took until nine thirty at night before we were done. That was the year eight trees had been donated. This year we had only four trees, but the number of boxes was still huge. One at a time, the boxes were opened and emptied. And before we knew it, the store was finished by five.
Yes, the pot-luck was delicious. Yes, G came to eat and bring me home. Yes, guiltily, I had seconds on desert.
