January 22, 2013 Tid Bits

Salt flats along the far reaches of San Diego Bay. Bay water is let in to these areas, it evaporates, and the remaining salt is harvested. After it is purified, it is sent up into this many year old shed then loaded on trucks. Used mostly on back east streets, sea salt is still a viable business around the world.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~@~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Other than feeling the complete fool a few times yesterday, it was a good day. Hiding my head in the sand was not an option. I didn’t read the instructions on my bottle of hormone pills, and yes I still take them, and the new pharmacy didn’t give me the correct pills. Oh, the bottle was marked. Take half a pill, the label told me….if I had read it. No wonder my breasts were so tender.
Do I read recipes. Yes, but do I always follow them. No. Yesterday I turned cashew chicken into Pho. I ended up making so much pho, pronounced pha, we will have more tomorrow. At least it is very high in veggies and low in WW points.
Mikey isn’t eating. Bee says he is channeling his mother, Rose, and he’s driving her mad. Chemo always alters the taste of everything so nothing tastes good. If he doesn’t eat he will die. I suggested she have a food tasting.
I wanted to see the parade yesterday. Just like any healthy American kid, I love parades. I did get to see some small parts. As usual, Army marched far better than Navy. It gave me great pleasure to note this on an offensive father of a grandson’s Facebook page. “Go Army,” I told him. Then again, I am seventy one now, and perhaps I should have some curb on my juvenile reaction to things.
I had the same reaction to some of the words that Obama said in his speech. Has any governmental personage ever mentioned Stonewall other in derision before? His words gave me hope.
  • Keeping those on the east coast in my thoughts. So pleased for ThomaS.
  • Himself: Nose still dripping. Why didn’t he tell me before.
  • Herself: Have been feeling very well; now I know why.
  • Reading: I’ll pick a new book to start this morning.
  • Balance: Feeling that yesterday’s embarrassments won’t be repeated today as I cut the pills in half. LOL
It was a "Pho, Pho Better Thing....." than the recipe called for.
Muchas Smuchas
You crack me up with the Go Army post. :) I think the food tasting is a fantastic idea. I also like the 1 spoon of taste competition where you have to identify the flavors in a single spoon full of food. You get points for the correct guesses. When my Dad was sick we got liquid claories from the pharmacist. You can add the clear liquid to whatever they like. It helped keep the weight on during radiation. Half a pill...gah - I wouldn't have been able to read the print on the label - I would have been a weeping mess. [Jeanne] 1/22/2013 11:48:51 AM
Do you use a pill cutter? Do you split it cross wise or length wise.
After Geeezer's note I lost my appetite [ThomaS]
i am glad it was pho and not pfhoey.. and if your dosage was changed somebody should have told you that. stop being so responsible ok? it is not your fault that the planet has a wobble in its orbit and therefore we the people do too. [oulin] 1/22/2013 2:55:39 PM
Dang pills anyway! [BonnieRose] 1/22/2013 3:16:40 PM
ouch! I remember tender breasts..not fun.
Taking pills without reading instructions is a bad idea,I learned that the hardwaq once too.
Some of the inaugeration wasshown here too.....Obama constantlq exhudes hope for me, despite the odd minor fault.
Its ok to still be a kid in one's seventies...I paln to be too.
Hum, I always thought that sea salt was collected by slow moving tug boats. Thanks for the insight. [Peter's Shadow] 1/22/2013 4:49:24 PM
Don't you know that after 50 you are entitle to be a kid again, or to be crotchety (your choice). I get scared when the pharmacy changes manufacturers of my meds -- the color changes and I fear they've given me the wrong medication. Naturally, I don't see the change until I get all the way home. As for runny noses, I've had mine since about November of last year -- allergies. And I take half an Allertec (generic) in the evening. If I take a whole pill, I'm foggy in the morning (more than my normal).
As for hormones, I don't take any -- my sister's breast cancer was fed by the hormones she took. :/ I go back for a followup mammogram and ultrasound next month. Do not look forward to it. [Tehachap]
Hey, didn't you know that after 70 we are expected to be children again? (the "second childhood") Enjoy!
Pho is nicer than stir-fry anyway - well, i think so. But must admit I've never made it with cashews!  [Arbi]
I'm already in my third childhood!!  [Tornado] 1/22/2013 10:16:14 PM
Oh, how silly of me to think 'salt mines' when you wrote of the salt and photo of the mountain of the salt! Sal de Mer is what I use instead of other salts...also from the sea.  [seedys] 1/23/2013 12:39:44 AM
I remember when my daughter was on chemotherapy she went through a period where the only thing she wanted to eat was Campbells Chicken Soup. We bought it in bulk for her. [Sobernt] 1/23/2013 8:38:27 AM
