No long naps yesterday. I played with images, priced things at work, and fixed a really good but lite dinner. Leftover pho…which had leftover lemon chicken in it, leftover tossed veggie salad, and half a baked potato. I confess that the portions were huge as I was trying to consume leftovers.

“It’s ok to throw food away.”

Boy, that’s hard to say. We of the WWII generation raised by the Depression generation find that almost impossible to do much less say.

We both lost weight at our weekly WW meeting. If Consumer Reports tells me that we will lose weight better if we go to meetings, we will go to meetings. I’m trying not to think beyond the moment.

  • Keeping those on the east coast in my thoughts. Cheering on ThomaS.

  • Himself: He had a good day.

  • Herself: Feeling really well this week.

  • Reading: Nothing new, and tonight is “Project Runway” which we both love.

  • Balance: Pulling out my watercolors and paper.

That's a wonderful picture. Losing weight is a life long job, isn't it? [BonnieRose] 1/24/2013 10:18:46 AM
Oh, goodie. You're painting! [aunty EM (2)] 1/24/2013 10:23:05 AM
Ah, the clean plate generation. It pains me, too. [Jeanne] 1/24/2013 10:33:41 AM

Wow, I had baked garlic parm chicken, veggies and half a baked potato last night also!  [Tornado] 1/24/2013 11:12:59 AM
Dinner sounds great. Yum. :) [The Rickster] 1/24/2013 1:31:35 PM
Good News that both you and G are feeling good. Plain old normalcy can be significant (in Pip too)! / Hope you'll share that watercolor. [TickTockTickTock] 1/24/2013 2:08:04 PM

Pho, not there's a dinner idea I haven't had in a while-thanks! [zipster] 1/24/2013 8:25:45 PM
Amen to that thought. I save such pitiful remnants of a meal but can't bring myself to throw good food in the trash. My sisters and I went through too many years close to starvation. It's ingrained in us now... [Tehachap] 1/24/2013 8:34:34 PM
'clean your plate' was a commandment in my house [+Pelican] 1/24/2013 8:52:38 PM
RYN: I saw that too and I was fascinated not only at the past clips he was showing but the juxtaposition of the modern day tools used to get a better look at nature.

Does anyone ever lose the weight and then just maintain instead of losing then gaining, then losing, on and on?  [seedys]

I have to ask - is that a salt mountain or a snowy one? (excuse my ignorance.)
It is hard to see flood go to waste but its not thrown por wasted if it goes into a compost.Thats how I convince myself I don't have to eat every mouthful ( though I usually..lol)

I once read something that talked about the idea that we think we're being wasteful by throwing away food but forgetting that consuming too much food is also wasteful. We don't need the extra fuel and it ends up being wasted and stored as fat we don't need. It's hard to remember that though when the food tastes so good and it seems a shame to toss it in the bin! [Florentine] 1/25/2013 9:47:08 AM
I love looking up a hill to the sky...and obviously taking photos of that. [LightButHearty] 1/26/2013 1:01:35 PM
Ah, that "But you CAN'T throw it away" syndrome!
For my whole adult life I've been inundated with gifts of chocolates, cookies etc. each Christmas, often at birthdays too. What to do? To say "I don't want them. Take them back!" is offensive. To eat them is adding unwanted calories to an already overweight body. Yes, I could keep them until I found someone to pass them on to, and I tried that - but the waiting goodies always called me so loudly that within a few days they had all been eaten, with no pleasure at all and much guilt.
It's taken me until the last few years to find the courage to simply throw them out.  [Arbi]
