Weeping Willows

Imminent precipitation Tuesday, May 08, 2012

All day long
sky glowering
winds gusting
threats and pressure
bearing down on us
we just want to get
from here to there

I wandered the new extended park
where there used to be an island
with a weird two-block
one-way street that led nowhere
now that's gone
they've paved it over with stone
the other side of the street made
narrower
to keep anyone from thinking
it's for racing
or ought to be a two-way
thoroughfare

Strange to choose this hostile day
to walk through it
but I liked it more this way
this day
for the gray gloom
it seemed nicer
newer
cleaner
an addition rather than a subtraction

I choose my wanders
sometimes
in a certain frame of mind
