Title:  Witch & Wizard: The Fire
Author:  James Patterson & Jill Dembowski
Pages:  336
Genre:  Young Adult

The Fire is the third book in the Witch & Wizard series.  I read the first one when it came out, not knowing it was a book for young adults, but I liked it a lot.  Of course I had to read the second and third books as well, and naturally if any more books come out in this series, I'll be sure to read them as well.

Whitford and Wisteria Allgood are Wizard and Witch, respectively.  They are children of the Prophecy, that two will rule and defeat the one, in this case The One Who Is The One.  He's been trying to get Wisty to give up her power, her fire, but somehow she always manages an escape, even when she's caught.  Whit's power is important to the story, his writing spells that everyone thinks is poetry, but it's not an elemental power like Wisty's.  The One Who Is The One has already gotten earth, air, and water.  If he were to get Wisty's fire, he'd have it all, and his intention was to make himself a god.

Whit and Wisty are forced to live on the run, choosing glamours to disguise themselves when they are in the Overworld in which The One Who Is the One has total control.  But Wisty is told by another witch, she needs to go up against The One and she doesn't have a clue about how to do that.

Whit finds himself in the Shadowland, the land of death, after being shown his executed parents waiting with all the other dead to cross the river into The After.  He NEEDS to find his parents.  His former girlfriend, Celia, is in the Shadowland as a Half-light, who still has unfinished business after being choked to death at the hands of The One.  He used her as bait to get to Whit and Wisty.

I found the story to be really riveting, but my lack of concentration is showing in how slowly I'm  finishing books.  I wound up giving this story 5 stars.  It's worth the read if you read all three books in order.
