Soup Early In The Morning Monday, June 06, 2011

I was going thru an old notebook of mine and a note about a  military hospital  experience of mine, years ago,  caught my eye.  This was no big deal ( it was to me at the time)  but I'll always remember that night.

HOT SOUP AT THREE O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING

I was in this military hospital for a tonsilectomy.  I remember being in the operating room and the doctor was starting to do his thing.  The anesthetic had not quite knocked me out.  I faintly remember hearing the doctor letting out a stream of profanity that would have put a pirate to shame.  Apparently one  his forceps had slippied off a tonsil.  Then I blacked out.

Back in my hospital room after the tonsilectomy, I became conscious.  I was really nauseated.  I couldn't face up to lunch or dinner brought to me on a tray.  I dropped off to sleep.

I woke up about three AM in the morning almost feeling like a human again except for the pain and soreness where my tonsils used to be.  I was hungry as hell. The hospital was quite.  I went exploring and found the now vacant dinning hall.  Nobody there  .However I could hear noises from the hospital kitchen next door to the dining room and headed there.

I told the cooks about my tonsilectomy and that now I was hungry as hell.  They were good guys and heated up some 'cream of tomato' soup and gave me a bowl of that.  I sat at a little table in the hospital kitchen and devoured that wonderful soup.  I had a second bowl.   Damn !     It was good.

Some things, you never forget.

A painful throat, kind guys giving you soup middle of the night--yeah, such things you'll remember. [TrilliumZen] 6/6/2011 9:55:25 PM
ryn Some collective nouns are of obvious origin. A Dishonesty of Politicians being one example. [Spoo] 6/8/2011 4:20:42 PM
RYN: Thanks a lot indeed for your constant encouragement. I will do my best to carry on with such a high zest.

Have a nice day. [Friend Of All]

Could you please re-post that website where one could listen to all the operas? I can't find your post where you gave it. Thanks [TrilliumZen] 6/9/2011 10:15:10 AM

Dot Com, you're a pal. I found the page, and have bookmarked it in several folders so I won't lose it. I'll have a wonderful time exploring all the great composers' music--so many great pieces to discover.
Thank you. [TrilliumZen]

Yeah, how well I remember my run-in with a table saw.
Sounds like the doc put the blame on the forceps. ;-)

And some things needed to be shared - like this memory of yours. How colorful our life-paintings become with small events like this, right? [the_mysticalmuse] 6/24/2011 1:56:40 AM
