Confessions Friday, December 22, 2006

In small group I voiced something I’ve never openly admitted to, which now has me committed to attending an open house Christmas party put on by Johnna and her family on tonight. UGH!  In the Captivating book it talks about hiding.  I tend to hide behind a computer (not face to face or phone relationships) because people can see me or I’m not able to edit my responses so they hear if I say something totally stupid. As such over the past 5 or 6 years I’ve become a bit of a hermit.  I haven’t attended one “girls night” with the ladies at work in the 3 years I’ve been there, I rarely attend wedding or baby showers, I hate parties where we have to make “small talk,” and except when discussing early childhood issues I find I have very little of interest to say and often grow bored with conversations of others too. (I don’t watch House or Survivor or American Idol or any of the hot water cooler topic shows!)

Anyway, I plan to be at this party so have hit Kohl’s first thing this morning to buy something festive for the occasion. I really shocked myself here too.  My first stop was the large women’s section where I picked up a red blouse and a green turtle neck both size 1x.  Then I walked around to the “regular” women’s sections and found so many wonderful things!  I ended up comparing the XL turtlenecks there to the 1x of the other and noted there was a slight difference. The XL is smaller than 1x. I really liked the colors in the XL section so ended up bringing them home. I hate trying on clothes at the store. I’d rather stand in a return line later if they don’t fit. Besides if they don’t fit now, they will in a month or so, right?  They all fit!!!!  Yeah!!!! Exciting to be in regular sizes again!  I haven’t seen those in about 10 years or more! I’m planning to wear my new red tank top with a cream colored sweater I already have and my black jeans. Casual yet dressy too.
