[2:06pm] It is pouring rain outside. We definitely need it - it has been very dry the past couple of weeks. However, I am driving to the new city to pick Shawn up from work so we can go sign the lease on our new apartment and I'm not looking forward to driving in this rain. Saturday Shawn's grandparents and mother came for a visit. They got here shortly after 11 and we spent some time at the apartment chatting and having coffee. His mother and grandmother wanted to do some shopping so we went to the mall around 1pm. Shopping with them was kind of stressful. They like to look at EVERYTHING, even if they're not buying it, and it felt like we spent ages in every store we went to. Plus I was hungry because we didn't eat lunch, and I get very cranky when I'm hungry! I was fine until we got to Wal-Mart and spent about half an hour standing and looking at barbecues while his grampy went on and on about how he just bought one the day before but it wasn't as nice as the ones at Wal-Mart so should he buy the Wal-Mart one and take the other one back....on and on and on... I tried to be patient but it was difficult! Anyway, we eventually left the mall and went for supper and then I was much more pleasant! haha I love his family but they can be stressful. Shawn's grampy called him last night and told him that his dad has been drinking heavily again. Shawn's cousin got married Saturday and Shawn's dad went to the ceremony drunk, and at some point that day drove his truck off the road and put a huge dent in it. Yes, he drives drunk quite frequently, which is very scary. He is amazingly lucky that he hasn't hurt himself, or worse, someone else. Apparently he went into work Monday either drinking or very hungover and they sent him home. Shawn's brother called last night and wanted Shawn to take today off work and go visit their dad to make sure he's ok. I didn't see the point of Shawn missing work and he decided not to go down, but his grampy called him again today and said that his dad had gone into work and was supposedly fine today. I feel so bad for Shawn having to go through this. I can tell that it is very hard on him even though he doesn't talk about it too much. His dad went to detox several months ago and we were hoping he would be ok after that, and he didn't drink again for quite a while. I'm sure losing his father earlier this month hasn't helped matters. I just hope that he can recognize that a lot of people are offering him help and that he will soon realize that he needs to accept that help.
