Chapter: Everyday Life
Backwards on the Interstate
Wednesday, October 26, 2011

I've tried to do an entry for a few days but always get interupted.  So I'll do what I can and hit 'SAVE'.

I’ve spent the last few days getting all the summer clothes put away and the winter clothing run through the dryer and hung up. It gets wrinkled being packed in those bags where the air is removed. If it does get warm in the afternoon, I can roll up my jeans and wear them as capris and put on my flipflops! I also got the lawn mowed this afternoon. Since we have so many leaves on the trees, I know I’ll be running the mower again to mulch them all up.

I’ll be glad to turn the clocks back. I’ve enjoyed walking early each day but now the sun isn’t up until after 7AM. So Emi and I spend half our walk in the dark. And those carefree days of putting on the harness and leash are gone. Now it’s the harness, then the coat(I’ve found her coats with the hole an inch or so from the neckline and the harness latch fits comfortably through the hole), then the leash. And Kleenex goes into my pockets and I’m ready to leave. Her little pink doggie bags are in a small cylinder that hooks to the leash , so I never have to worry about having them with us. She has such small amounts that I toss it in the toilet and flush it away, so no smelly garbage cans!

Yesterday I went up to Harrisburg to do some shopping. I ended up with nothing and I couldn’t seem to find anything I was looking for. What a waste! On the way home I decided to take I81 instead of Rt22, which I usually use, so I could set the cruise and avoid the lights. I turned onto the ramp and halfway down the ramp I notice the traffic is just setting there. I got down off the circular ramp and then I felt trapped on the straight ramp(where you yield to traffic) by many car and truck lengths. It was then I started to wonder how long would I be here? I turned on the radio but there were no reports.

A few minutes later I looked in my rearview mirror and saw a silver/gray car pull out of the traffic and onto the ramp I was on and start to back up. Well, I could do that too! So I put my car in reverse and started to go backwards on the straight ramp and when I got to where it started to curve and go uphill, I stopped. I wanted to look and see if any vehicle was coming down this part of the ramp. It wasn’t as wide as the straightaway, where I had the ramp AND the berm, which was wider than a truck. Nothing was coming, so I started up the ramp. Halfway to the top I noticed there was an opening in the fence along the ramp, so I went through there on the grass and got on the exit OFF the interstate and was now going the right direction. I still had to contend with traffic trying to get onto Rt22, which runs parallel with I81. In the end I had to take a back road down to Hershey because the traffic ended up sitting on this road too. I’m so glad I don’t have to bother with traffic everyday.

I cannot believe they are getting snow in Denver...and not a dusting either.  I hope we can have longer for fall.  We have loads of leaves yet that need to fall before snow.  Even my zoyzia grass is still green and not brown yet.  So lets put a hold on any type of winter weather...please!!

I've been turning the computer off every night since Michael left in June.  And what a difference in the performance of my computer.  I've lost those nasty boxes that kept popping up all over the place.  And it seems to perform much faster overall.

I don't know why, but so many times when I do an entry the cursor jumps all over the place and sometimes when I hit the return button, it goes to the top of the entry.  So on that note, I will close this and say.....Later!

You cracked me up reading you went backward on the ramp. I am sure when people saw you doing they followed suit. Just had to worry about people coming down.. Yikes. I don't even want to think about it... Glad you made it safely..

Thats why I shop on line alot so I don't have to be in traffic.  [myserenity]

Ok I started reading your story about backing down the ramp and I was waiting for the bad ending, hahaha. I would never have the guts to do that.  [Linette] 10/26/2011 6:31:05 PM
Oh when do we turn the clocks back? It must be coming up soon. I don't mind moving them back either but I must admit it is hard to have it already be dark when I leave work at the end of the day. It always feels like I'm working late! [Elan] 10/26/2011 6:45:51 PM
I can just see you backing up on the ramp! but I don't blame you a bit:) [Grammy's Heart] 10/26/2011 7:31:07 PM
Oh thank God you're brave enough to do that. It saves lots of time if you just dare to do something different! Wow I'm surprised that winter is not just upon you like it is us. I think it was one degree away from snowing last night. It was freezing! We have a chance for wintery mix these next couple days. Ick! [Abba Father] 10/26/2011 8:46:08 PM
Sometimes you never know what stops traffic. I checked to see when we changed the time. I've been wondering.  [crystal butterfly] 10/27/2011 7:29:31 AM
i think the time change is some time in early november. i hate traffic. that's why i'm so glad to be living in a small town with little traffic. take care, [gray tabby] 10/27/2011 8:41:51 AM
Laughing about backing off the ramp!

Interesting about turning off the computer. I leave mine on - even though I know I shouldn't - because it takes FOREVER to boot up!  [the one who wonders]

I81 makes me think of home. I've been on that interstate MANY times, just in my old neck of the woods.
I hate to go shopping and not find anything. It's so rare that I DO get to go for anything besides groceries that I end up really frustrated if there is nothing to my liking.
You still have green grass??? Ours is almost all brown down here already. We've had 3 hard freezes and are supposed to have a low of around 29 tomorrow night. Brrr! I'm afraid that with all the chilly days and cold nights we've had already that it's going to be a rough winter in Alabama.
Hmm, I think I'll try turning our computer off every night and see if it helps ours at all. We're on dial up so it's slow as molasses to start with. I think I need to defrag ours as well. As soon as I'm up to writing another entry there's something that I want to write about that I think will make you smile. It has to do with prayers and answers.

Be careful when backing down those ramps tho'---there was an incident around here a while back, where the person did that and ended up hitting another car and causing a death---went to trial and the guy was found guilty of EVERYTHING!----supposed to get snow Saturday---we'll see. I was able to put all my summer stuff away a couple of weeks ago---only kept out "springy" things. [QueenSuzu] 10/28/2011 6:13:21 PM
RYN: I plan to take this as high up as I can go. I found out this morning that they are owned by a company in Illinois. I have their addy as well as phone number and I plan to do both, call and write. This is something that NEVER should have happened and if some of the nurses there really cared they would have definately done something. I am absolutely furious about this! [~Harmonie~] 10/29/2011 10:45:26 AM
