(Lindsay runs out in front of the curtain, across the stage, and Mrs. Louis comes after her.)

Mrs. Louis: Lindsay! Wait! Where are you going!

Lindsay: I’m going home. I’ve got stuff to do.

Mrs. Louis: Lindsay. There’s something wrong with you. You were late for class, you didn’t come when I asked you too, you’ve lost a lot of weight, and you’ve got a serious attitude problem.

Lindsay: There’s nothing wrong, I just have to go.

Mrs. Louis: Until you get your priorities in order, don’t bother coming to class.

(Lindsay turns away, upset & running off stage.)

(Curtains open and it’s Lindsay house. Bedroom/Dining room)

(Lindsay’s in her bedroom listening to her Ipod crying. Her mothers at the dining room table, her father enters stage left.)

Mom: Way to come home drunk, again.

Dad: You know why I go to the bar and get drunk? So I don’t have to spend time with you.

Mom: Then why do you even bother coming home at all!

Dad: Believe me, if I had somewhere to spend the night I wouldn’t come here.

Mom: Isn’t that wonderful, if you had another place to sleep you would just leave your daughter and me. Is that what your saying.

Dad: Yea pretty much. All you ever do is sit at home and watch your soaps. Lindsay’s not much better with her dancing, its not going to take her anywhere in life. Dance is worthless and it’s a waste of our money.

Mom: How could you ever say that, that’s her passion. Just because you don’t have something to love, doesn’t mean you can take it out on us. I’m your wife what ever happened to till death do us part.

Dad: Well that’s all shot to hell now isn’t it?

Mom: THEN LEAVE; GET OUT OF MY HOUSE NOW. I NEVER WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN!

Dad: No, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. Honey, Please. I’m sorry.

(Stands up from table, pushing chair back. Lindsay gets out of her bed and cracks open her door and peeks out.)

Mom: No, don’t touch me. I think you should leave for the night.

Dad: No you leave, this is my house, I paid for everything!

Mom: The only thing you pay for is your booze!

(Dad slaps her. Mom falls to the floor. Lindsay rips open the door, and runs towards her mother.)

Dad: Get back in there! I’ll deal with you later!

(Lindsay runs into her room and picks up the phone)

Lindsay: (crying) Cole…

(Cole appears in spotlight on opposite side of stage.)

Cole: Lindsay, what’s wrong?

Lindsay: I don’t know, I just need someone to talk to.

Cole: I’m here for you, you know that. And Mrs. Louis, and Sarah have been trying to talk to you, but you’re just shutting everyone out of your life.

Lindsay: I know, but it didn’t seem like you were there for me yesterday when you were with Kelly.

Cole: I’m sorry Lindsay. She came onto me, I didn’t know what to do, and you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It wasn’t anything. I didn’t mean for you to see that.

Lindsay: Would it have been something if I didn’t show up?

Cole: No, Lindsay! Don’t be like that. You know I would never do that to you.

Lindsay: Well. You did! How did you not know what to do? Just say no. You’re with me. If there’s something going on with you two then there’s nothing I can do!

Cole: LINDSAY! There’s nothing going on! (Lindsay slams down the phone)

(Lindsay lies down in her bed crying. Her mom walks in.)

Mom: Linds… can we talk? (Mom sits down at the end of Lindsay’s bed.)

Lindsay: Is he gone?

Mom: Yeah, he went back to the bar.

Lindsay: No. Mom. You know what I mean.

Mom: Yeah. He’s gone.

Lindsay: Mom. What are we going to do? We have nothing without him. You don’t have a good enough job to support us.

Mom: Don’t worry hunny, we’ll figure something out. I’m going to make you something to eat.

Lindsay: It’s fine. I’m not hungry.

Mom: You’re never hungry. (Walks out of the room)

(Phone rings.)

Lindsay:  Cole! I don’t want to talk to you!

Kelly: Seems like your weight isn’t the only issue you have.

Lindsay: Kelly what do you want?

Kelly: Cole called me and told me what happened. Why are you making such a big deal about it, you must be jealous.

Lindsay: First you kiss my boyfriend, then you talk to him on the phone?

Kelly: Why wouldn’t I?

Lindsay: Okay Kelly. I give up, you can have him, you can have my part in the competition, and you can have my dreams. You can have everything, cause I’m done with it.

Kelly: Why are you being so dramatic, you never had it all to begin with.  Fat girls don’t make it in the dance world. Cole is way to good for you. Get over yourself. (Kelly hangs up the phone.)

(Mom opens Lindsay’s door.)

Mom: Sarah’s here to see you.

Sarah: Hey, you don’t look so good. Are you okay?

Lindsay: I’m fine.

Sarah: Lindsay, I know you’ve been having a hard time with everything but we need to talk about this. (hands Lindsay the weight log.)

Lindsay: Where did you find this? Why did you go through my things?

Sarah: I didn’t, Cole found it. But that doesn’t matter; what matters is why you have this.

Lindsay: It doesn’t matter, nothing matters anymore. You wouldn’t understand anyways.
