xx Savannah Asian Festival and Splice Monday, June 07, 2010

I had a great weekend with Bianca!

Friday I got off work at 5 and drove straight to Spring Hill. I got there at 9 and Bianca was outside waiting for me. She held out $60 telling me it was for gas and I told her not to worry about it and that I handled the gas on the way down. We arrived in Richmond Hill around 1 and I was so tired. I should've picked coffee up on the way. I let Bianca have my bed and told her I'll just sleep with Derek. I did the same thing when Bev came to visit.

Saturday I woke up at about 9 from Cosette whimpering. I forgot to walk her at 8 because I was so tired from driving. Derek and I walked her together for 30 minutes and we were holding hands. When we returned to the house Bianca was just waking up so I made french toast for me, her, and Derek. I knew Jess wouldn't be waking up anytime soon since she now sleeps till 1 in the afternoon. I really wish I knew what was wrong with her because it's far from depression.

When she did wake up it was decided that we head into Savannah now. We might as well since we were to meet Emily, Megan, and Katy at the pizzeria at 5:30. Derek told me he'll watch Cosette and maybe take her for a ride in his truck. Yes, that will make Cosette very happy and distract her from my absence.

The three of us were hungry once we got into Savannah. Jess didn't eat any breakfast since she woke up at 1 and Bianca and I had only two slices of french toast. I actually wanted to try out The Shrimp Factory on 313 E River St. Shrimp is my favorite seafood and I have never tried this place. I found it was haunted. :-D

We didn't see or hear anything unusual while we were there. I had the shrimp fry which cost $14.75 but it was so good! It had mango curry chutney and honey mustard on it. Loved it. Jess just got a turkey bacon club...she's slowly losing her appetite because she use to eat so well. Bianca got the fish fry sandwich which I was thinking about getting but I did come to the factory for the shrimp. :-p

So we hung out for the remainder of the day. We just walked around and checked a couple of stores out. And at 5:30 we met up with the others at the pizzeria. Afterwards we went to see a movie and the review will be at the end of the entry as usual.

Sunday The Savannah Asian Festival! I only went with Bianca because Jess wasn't feeling well. Her lymph nodes in her neck and underarm felt swollen and they were hurting her. Also she was very tired and didn't want to get out of bed. Derek said he'll stay home with Cynthia to watch Jess. Sometimes I am getting the feeling they are hiding something from me about Jess but maybe I'm being paranoid.

The festival was interesting and a lot of fun but I still think the Memorial Day celebration was better. As we walked into the Martin Luther King Jr. Arena at the Civic Center we got Middle Eastern shawarma and watched Polynesian dancers while eating it. There were also touch stones dated to the Ming Dynasty.

A woman by the name of Zeena Altf, who represented the Muslin community, had a crafts table that offered projects that were typical in Pakastani culture. She wore a very nice colorful headscarf and blouse. LoL I started to imagined what I would look like with that on. :-D

I think my favorite part of the festival were the food vendors that lined the main arena. I had shish kafta sandwiches from the Middle East and pork from the Pacific islands. You could smell the aroma of Indian curry....there was also the scent of chicken satay and teriyaki which is my favorite.

The festival was a nice experience. After the festival I drove Bianca back to Florida...I also called Derek to see how Jess was doing and he told me she's been sleeping all day and still is. I told him I would probably be home by 1 am again. I told him not to wait up since he has to drive to his job at 3 am. He's been staying in a hotel Monday-Thursday and it's saving him gas. He told me he'll give me a call sometime Monday.

I still don't know how Jess is feeling...when I got home I took a quick shower, changed into my pajamas and here I am...still up. You would think I would be tired after a ten hour drive but I wanted to update.

*********

I'll do that movie review and then I am going straight to be bed meaning I won't have time to check my favorites. I have work on Monday and I'm not up to drinking coffee all day to stay awake.

On June 5, I saw 'Splice' with Bianca, Emily, Megan, Katy, and Jess. Megan and I wanted to see 'Killers' but it was decided a long time ago that we all won't see seperate movies. Saturday nights are the nights we all chill together. There will always be times when we all don't agree to the same movie but Bianca, Emily, Katy, and Jess wanted to see 'Splice'...it was 4-1.

Summary

Superstar genetic engineers Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) specialize in splicing together DNA from different animals to create incredible new hybrids. Now they want to use human DNA in a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine. But when the pharmaceutical company that funds their research forbids it, Clive and Elsa secretly conduct their own experiments. The result is Dren, an amazing, strangely beautiful creature that exhibits uncommon intelligence and an array of unexpected physical developments. And though, at first, Dren exceeds their wildest dreams, she begins to grow and learn at an accelerated rate--and threatens to become their worst nightmare.

If you want to see a scary horror movie then this isn't it. I expected Dren (the experiment) to be more scary and untamable. Instead you kind of grow feelings for it and can't help but saw 'awe' while you watch her grow. As for the sexual content, it's more of a gross omg I can't believe this is happening and you can't help but laugh at how nasty it is. Overall it's an okay movie. I wish the ending was different and not so predictable. Don't get me wrong it does have some scary parts, but just now what I expected.

Jess who loves horror movies thought the same thing so I rest my case. Also I am sorry that the review sucked but I'm in a hurry to get to bed.

Night!
