I filed my taxes just now and I'm glad to be getting a good amount back because all of it is going to pay off two of my credit cards. I should have the money in about two weeks so once I get that and get paid again, I should have all but one credit card paid off and that's the one G and I both use. So hopefully, once I get the information to file his, he can give me some money and everything will be paid off. I think I can pay it off myself by the end of next month. At that time, the only debt I will have is my student loans and I couldn't be happier. My plan is to pay roughly $500 extra on my student loans every other month and the months that I'm not paying extra, I want to put as much as I can into savings. I really feel like I'm getting a handle on my finances and I couldn't be happier. It's always been a huge stress factor for me and with my credit cards paid off and my savings piling up, I will be able to relax some and enjoy life more.
I plan on putting at least $1,000 into savings the months I don't pay extra on my student loans. So by the end of the year, I should have close to $8,000 on top of what I already have in savings. Plus I owe G a $1,000 so I can set that aside for him. And of course, if G gets his job back in April, he could most likely afford to put about $1,500 a month into savings so he can build his back up. I feel like things are starting to fall into place and I hope they continue on this path because I'm feeling pretty good. Now it's time to start saving for a house and of course, planning some vacations.
