I definitely did not see it coming. I really thought Richard was being a total ass, wel more than just an ass by saying he "kilt" her. I thought he was just going to off the whole family for a second.

I really don't think Momma is going to change much. She seems to set in her angry ways. And well C was still hanging on to Emma in the end in her journal. So its hard to say if she wil actually pop back up or just stay in her head in secret notes. [kraziekatt]

You know, for one tiiiiny little moment, when Carrie walks in to see her mother lying on the floor telling her to 'git' and to 'hurry' I felt like she was protecting her, like Richard was just waiting in the balance to do something to C. Looking back, I wonder if Momma was telling her to get out because C had the gun and didnt want Richard to swipe it from her grasp and shoot them both?

I doubt Momma will change either. I think she feels like the victim. She reminds me of my mother... more into someone who will give them the time of day rather than respect and cherish their company. Reading this book made me really glad that my mother has never remarried. [The Fabulous MP]

The ending surprised me just because of the Emma secret. As for C killing Richard, I saw that coming as soon as the old man started teaching her to shoot.

I think the ending is bleak. Momma doesn't seem like the type of person that is going to change. She sees Carrie as a burden, not a blessing to be protected. [SkycladGoddess]
