strange things happen on stairs wells on saturdays Thursday, May 14, 2009

"Strange things happen on stairs wells on Saturdays".
They have been together for years. It is uncertain of how they met. Some say they had been childhood friends, others think that the story is legend. I believe that they met in a crowded room.
It was a crowded room of strangers, all looking at each other, but looking for nothing in particular. Out of everyone there, he was the only one that believed in love at first sight.
Sooner or later the strangers all had to stumble home. She was the first to leave when the room began to empty and the strangers' stare was broken.   His mind began filling with worst case scenarios. His assumption ended up being that she had never seen him at all, and he would spend each day searching until their eyes could meet again.
What felt like years had passed. He had never let one minute slip by without believing that he was in love. He went to every crowded room on the block. He could not accept the fact that the story ended without so much as a word spoken.
She went on to other rooms with other strangers and other stares. But no one ever looked at her the way that he did, something in their eyes was missing. And something in her felt to be missing. Like when his eyes met her's he took a little bit of her soul for keeps sake. Although she would never admit it to anyone but herself, she couldn't accept the fact that the story ended without so much as a smile shared.
He stirred around the house on a Saturday, high on caffeine and low on sleep. That is when he decided that the search was over. The strange thing about strangers is that they give up too easily. With that in mind he walked out the door and proceeded down the stairs.
She woke up late that Saturday morning. He was the first thing to cross her mind. It seemed so unimportant, she could go so many places but the simple thought of him kept her in the city. With that in mind she got out of bed, walked out the door and started down the stairs. A shiver down her spine made her  look over her shoulder.
He couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the eyes that’s stared back at him. He couldn't breathe in fear that the eyes might be startled and turn away.  He could do nothing but stand and stare down at her.
She stood motionless glancing up at him. She took a deep breathe as he walked closer to her.
His feet moved faster than his mind and he descended down the three steps that separated them. His heart pounded as she opened her mouth to speak. He did not know how he could handle a conversation with the velocity at which his mind was racing. He did the only thing he could think that would silence her and slowly brought his hands to her face.
She began to wonder what she could say besides hello. Before the words could make a sound his hands brought her face to his. And with a kiss she would never forget she began to believe in love at first sight.
