The "Homeless" one Thursday, July 16, 2009

I live in one of the most beautiful places in Germany and am enjoying my life here with my family (wife, son and a Great Dane), if I'm not on a business trip. I travel much, so I try to take as much of my family as I can, whenever being with them. I also have a daughter from my 1st wife, that also spends her holidays with us if it's possible.

When ever I go out with our dog (Ginger) in the morning, when everybody is still sleeping, I enjoy the morning fresh air and the lovely view across the sea to the mountains, just lovely! It's like in a dream, no soul around, just the birds singing, the fish jumping, a light breeze and Ginger of course! Then I get back home and wait for the rest of the family to wake up. What else can you wish for!

But why "Homeless"?

Well, each time somebody asks me, "...where do you come from?", I take a deep breath and start: "I was born in Germany, but have been traveling thru the world ever since. First a few years in Germany (in different city's), then a few in Australia, afterwards moved back to Europe (former Yugoslavia, Germany), then several years to the United States and back to Europe again (former Yugoslavia, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and so on…). My parents, both come from former Yugoslavia, but met each other in Germany. I haven't lived in Yugoslavia long enough to see it as my homeland and neither do I feel at home in Germany. I don't know what "homesickness" feels like, even though I'd like to sometimes. They say "Home is where your family is and where you feel comfortable", and I am happy with my family, but it doesn't feel like home.
There are so many places that I feel more comfortable at, maybe because of the mentality of the people, friendliness and easy way of life or how the people look at it. I am a German citizen myself, but these people here are stubborn, uptight and unfriendly, well at least in our region they are and it's so depressing! There are days where I'd like to pack my family and fly away, South Africa, Italy, Trinidad, Australia or my favorite, back to the States! But still, I can't answer the question, "…where do you come from?"

I don't know!!!

I had a friend that used to say home is where the heart is, I'm at a sleeping place.
