Return Thursday, June 17, 2010

Wow, ok, so it's been a few days.  And a few very hectic days I might add!

This is going to take me hours to type as I feel like the fingers of my left had have been grated.  No jokes, I'm trying to re-learn the bass guitar in 2 days flat and it is a bitch of an instrument if you don't already play harp or cello or something else equally callous-inducing.  I've got one of the songs from the show i'm learning down, but that's not great at this stage.

I went to the doctor's this morning to try and sort out my scummy fingers.  It's pretty gross I must say - I have this sort of eczema thing on 4 of them and it hurts so so much, and I got this new cream for them.  Hope that will make it go away, as I don't like feeling like a leper walking around.

I just made these amazing brownies :D I think the mix would work better as chocolate fairy cakes or something, but it still tastes really really good and there's no fat in them.  I'm going to include the recipe because it's just so awesome:

Non Fat BrowniesThis is a featured page

Ingredients:
2/3 cup canned apple (substitute with unsweetened applesauce)
1 tsp vanilla
¾ cup sugar
½ cup flour
½ tsp baking soda
2 egg whites, lightly beaten
¼ cup cocoa powder

Procedure:
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Spray a square non-stick baking pan (8 inch x 8 inch) with non-stick cooking spray.
Combine the ingredients in a large mixing bowl, blend well. Pour batter into pan and bake 20-30 minutes until cooked. To test if batter is cooked, insert a toothpick. If it comes out clean, brownie is cooked
Remove from oven and let cool for five minutes in pan.
Gently remove from pan; place on wire rack and when cool, sprinkle with icing sugar if desired. Cut into eight squares. Enjoy!

I'd always been a bit sceptical of using fruit purees instead of butter, but it seems to have turned out really well :)  I ended up using the yolks of those eggs for lunch, poached with some toast and slices of turkey, omnomnom.  How many noms can an om nom nom if an om nom could om noms?  Er, anyway....

OMG I went to two massive events on Monday, one of which was quite cool but the other was AMAZING.  On Monday morning, I travelled to Windsor for this royal parade that happens every year for the Knights of the order of the Garter.  Sounds a bit monty python-like, right? :P  So I've ended up with some great pictures of the Queen and co.  I wish I could put a couple up but I simply don't know how to use photobucket properly!
Anyway, then me and my ex went to his University's Ball which was the most incredible thing I've ever been to.  The tickets are bloody expensive - about £120 each - but you more than get your money back from the stalls and things.  As you go in, there is free champagne, and it's actually really good champagne, and that is free and unlimited throughout the night.  In the same area, there is a G&T tent, and also this enormous stage where we saw Wheatus (as in Teenage Dirtbag), Alphabeat and ABBA UK.  Behind that is the hall, where there was a swing band for a lot of the night and a dance floor, and then it turned into a Victorian music hall with entertainers of all types including the singers Cantabile.  Anyway, you go through an arch from that area and you're at the bit where there's free oysters (or rather, there *were* free oysters - 1/3 of a ton actually, and they lasted about 20 minutes, so unfortunately we missed them) and the firework display that was utterly, utterly amazing.  They timed most of it to the music they used, and if you wanted you could book a punt in advance and watch them from the river.  I was right near the back, and I could feel the heat from some of the display so I dread to think what it would have been like that close!  The oyster place then turned into a pizza stand at some point during the night, which was cool - you could watch them making the things :)  Then you go over the bridge, and you're by the main music tents other than the big stage at the beginning.  There was a club tent with DJ Breeze (I think?) for some of the night amongst others, and free alcohol at the back - mostly alcopops and things.  It was hilarious, there was a different sort of alcohol or food in each marquee that all matched the different music or whatever happening there :P  There was a marquee with a jazz band and some dancing and a cocktail bar by the side of it, one with comedy in (those guys were side-splittingly hilarious, seriously I don't think I've laughed that much in a long time), a tent with three massive chocolate fountains in and all sorts of stuff to dip in (that was limited to 5 skewers each, unfortunately :( but that was the only limited thing there).  Another massive tent had various music things in it, when we were in there it was an a cappella group from another college, and there was all moroccan cuisine in there, YUM.  There was a Pimms stand in the middle of that section, and a coffee marquee to the side because you're meant to attempt to stay awake until the Survivors' Photo at 6am :P  You go past that, and then you're in a fairground.  No jokes, this is just like within their uni accommodation and they had those huge swing things, bungee trampolines, bumper cars, hoopla, free candy floss and popcorn and ice cream and oh.... >.< Unfortunately, we didn't make survivors' and we packed it in around 4.30, more from the cold than from being tired.  If I go next year, I totally will need a fur coat or something.

Here's some of the firework display: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaySdRGYgY8
Here's us trying to sing along to Teenage Dirtbag before I lose control of the camera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLhvp3XJiCU

I need to give this ex a name but I don't want to name him really as that'll be a bit of a giveaway.  That nearly made sense.  Ok, Alex, it is.  So anyway, surprisingly, Alex was really well behaved for most of the night; he did get a little bit gropey as he drank more but as he didn't get completely wasted he was with it enough that he took notice when I said a particularly vehement "no".  We then got up to tricks a little bit the following morning, but without actually doing anything to each other.... Well, apart from one bit but I'll let that go because it was blooooody good.  Maybe he's been reading up on some of these things in the hope that I'll take him back >.< oh dear...  It wouldn't surprise me, but I hope that's not the case.  I also don't want this turning out like the last time we broke up - he was with someone else, but we continued to be together and it was very stupid and made me at least feel like crap.

Anymahoo onto more cheery things.   Or more smutty things, lol.  I'm reading this fic called The Screamers, which sounds really dark as a title but it isn't, and it's a really funny story.  Try it, you might like it :)

I think that's enough from me for now.  Ta ta.
