I stayed home from work yesterday. I woke up feeling fine. Took my shower, did my face, and was in the middle of doing my hair when I started feeling as though I was going to empty the contents of my stomach through my mouth. I kept thinking it would pass and I continued to get ready for work. Wearily, I put on my outfit for the day, and I sat down to put on my boots when I determined that it was not going to pass as quickly as I would have liked. I called the office and let them know that I was not going to come in. Oh how I HATE calling in sick! Its such a burden to the other employees that have to do my work while I'm out, in addition to keeping up with their own tasks.
Today I feel fine. I think my breakfast just didn't sit well with me yesterday morning. I'd had a banana, a small bit of oatmeal, and some almonds. Honestly, I think it was the almonds that did it. Sometimes after I eat nuts they don't always sit well with me. I'll eat them anyway because they're so yummy, but this time I really felt crappy.
A guy at my office, who is about 58 years old, recently learned that he has many food allergies. Nuts is one of them. I wonder if I'm developing an allergy to nuts. Ah, nuts!!!!!
I leave you with this:

Oh my! That picture made me choke on my coffee!!
Almonds do the same thing to me. If I eat more than a handful, my stomach gets queasy. [TradCathMom]

Seriously, nuts should not just sit in a pantry. Refrigeration keeps them longer. Shelf life is only about four months after opening unrefrigerated. Heat, moisture and air are the villians. But so tasty, second only to pecans.
Allergies can develop later in life. You could go to the doctor or buy fresh nuts and eat them, being prepared to miss another day of work. Best done on a weekend.
My niece has the nut allergy and once blew up like a balloon when eating nut products unknowingly.

If you discover you are allergic to nuts you may be forced to cancel your OD subscription. That would suck.

Not fun. Nuts are an important part of my diet. I don't know what I'd do if I found out I was allergic. I hope it was just a passing thing for you. [noko]

My daughter has tree nut allergies. I hope you don't. You could still eat peanuts, though. [BonnieRose]

That could be an allergy--- how unnerving! Maybe it's just almonds. They often make my mouth a little itchy, but no other nuts do that. [edna million]

RYNRMnutN: Not having a can of almonds I went online to check shelf life. It said don't get them wet, keep them in an air tight container and the temp shound be between 45° and 51° and around 55% humidity. You can even freeze them, if you happen on some wild sale where they are nearly free. Fat chance!
Anyway, I would check the allergy thing as that can be very dangerous.
Oh, and the teenie weenie Ingredients are a government regulation and usually in fine or finer print. I see you eat the unsalted kind. Else it would have listed the oil and salt there is teenie weenie print.

Nuts have a lot of fat and I've heard it's harder to digest fat as we get older. It's also easy to eat a lot of nuts :) [Adriana Mole]

Very sorry you were sick. Work (or school) is always doubly difficult afterward and I know what you mean about hating to burden co-workers. Still, staying home is the right thing to do. Good you're better and your sense of humor is well intact! [TickTockTickTock]

Intolerant of nuts here too. I don't say "allergic" becuase I don't have typical histamine type reactions, but I definately have upper gastric pain. They are on a long list of other food sensitivites I have.

I've learned over the years that I can't eat anything with sugar in it in the morning...no donuts, no muffins, no cereal...so if I do get hungry I stick with lightly buttered toast. Glad you're feeling better today. [FRIDAY'S CHILD]

I've had that happen before... get up, start getting ready for work, think I'm just fine and suddenly I'm not. Fortunately in my job, my being out doesn't usually inconvenience anyone else, at least not to the extent that it does in your job. I'm glad you're feeling better today! [Elan]
