Copy and Paste a cure! Sunday, September 25, 2011

So this one is a shorter one :) It's something that has been brought to my attention more so today than any other day.

So this one mainly concerns social networking sites. For an example (since most of you will no doubt be using this one) let's use Facebook.

Click on to anyones newsfeed and no doubt you will see this mass pasting of things along the line of 'IF YU DONT COPY ND PASTE THIS YOU WILL BE CHARGED TO USEE FB! PPUT THIS ON UR PROFILE OMGGZZ! IF YU DONT YOU NEED TO PAY LYKK' (rough translation being that if you don't copy and paste this waste of the english language onto your profile or status, facebook will start to charge you to use the service. The other popular type is 'I KNOE SUM1 WIV CANCER, IF U DO 2, COPY N PASTE TO SHOW UR SUPPORT!!! I KNOW WHO WILL IF U DNT UR <3LESS!' (which again roughly translates as if you paste this into your status it helps find a cure for whatever horrible disease they decide to post about).

So here's why I have a problem with it. It's a load of nonsense! If people would consider the crap they're posting they would realise first off, that it cannot be anything official since the spelling and grammar would have been checked a good few times before it was released and wouldnt look like a 14 year old had done it to get attention. Secondly, why would posting anything on your profile be beneficial? Facebook certainly wont know if you posted something about their payment demands, how many people do you think are posting this crap all at once? Plus unless it becomes a problem, they will not be checking who is posting what. So really it becomes pointless.

Well now we have the main point. The one that really annoys me. Instead of actively doing something, people seem to think that posting a status makes them a good samaritan. No. It doesn't. It makes you annoying and you're using up the newsfeed as these things tend to be a paragraph long to maybe even novel length with the rate some of them will go on for. Well thats a bit over the top, but you see my point. Posting a status will NOT help find a cure for any horrible disease. The only way we can do that is to help in some form or fashion, the scientists who are already on their way to finding a cure, rallying for support, raising money for research, THAT is how to help, we can't get by in life by copy and paste cures.

So maybe I'm just heartless, so lets hear your opinions :)

Heartless seems to be the better option here. I'd be peeved if I logged on to facebook to see 50 statuses (by different people) all saying the exact same thing. Luckily I don't have many friends who would blindly copy and paste everything. [Geli Deli] 9/28/2011 6:36:45 PM
