PC angst Thursday, June 14, 2012

I very nearly lost my patience with computers once and for all last night.

After chopping and changing my drives and data around so I could free up my 300GB Velociraptor to allow me to re-install Windows. At 7pm I was ready and I started re-installing.

Managed to just about get everything sorted on it, installed most my apps, drivers, finished installing windows updates and rebooted again.

It failed to POST. Not even a beep. Or any kind of display

I am suspecting the Motherboard has become fried from the sheer number of times I have had the board out of the case. Maybe I was not properly earthed or maybe I caught something with a tool, but my PC is effectively dead. This was at nearly 11pm when I was thinking I could go to bed.

I have a few other tests I am going to do - try a different graphics card, swap and change the memory around but it has left me scouring websites and ebay for another Asus Maximus Formula motherboard - preferably one without the water cooled northbridge heat sink but at the moment I just want my PC working again.

I am about a month behind on my studying thanks to moving house and I am going to miss my target by being an MCITP in Server 2008 admin by Christmas.

This infuriates me. More so because I have not played any Football Manager in about a month thanks to forgetting to put Steam into offline mode when I moved so without an internet connection which I only had installed yesterday, meant I could not play any games installed via Steam. Of which most of the ones I currently play are :-\

Anyone fancy donating me some money to replace my mobo? (If only that would happen...) It's going to cost me £60 or £80 depending on if I go with the safe ebay seller in the UK, or one that I am still trying to decide is trustworthy enough to ship it to me from Hong Kong... Plus delivery.

I'm supposed to be saving money.

On the plus side, I am getting almost all of the deposit money on the old house. Lost a bit because they found some fleas hiding away so they had to get the place fumagated. Rubbish. Still wouldn't make me want to get rid of the cats though.
