Selecting a Custom Image

In addition to selecting a background image from the standard Open Diary images, you can select an image of your own to use as your diary image.

To use a custom image, the image must be posted on an Internet server that the Open Diary server can load it from. You must also know the full Internet URL of the picture. For example, the full URL of the image that is used for the Open Diary logo is http://www.opendiary.com/images/odlogo.jpg.

To select a custom image, go to the Change Diary Style screen and click the diary element that you want to change. Background images are only available for the Page Margin or Body Background of your diary.

On the image selection screen, page to the bottom and you will see a text box and a Set Custom Image button. To use a custom image, enter the URL of the image in the box and click the button. A thumbnail of your custom image will be displayed on the Change Diary Screen with the name "Custom Image".

If you enter an invalid URL for your image, it will not be displayed by your browser. If you see a blank background for your page, it is most likely that the URL you entered is not valid. To test whether the URL is valid, enter it into the address bar of your web browser. If the URL is valid, your browser will display the image.

Please also note: if you are going to use an image that you do not own for your diary image, be sure to get permission to use the image first. Using images owned by others without their permission is a copyright violation.
