Adding Your Privacy Settings

The Privacy Settings screen lets you set the privacy levels for your diary and notes. These settings will determine who can read your diary, and who can leave you notes.

The first setting is Diary Privacy, which lets you choose who will be allowed to view your diary. There are four possible settings for diary privacy:

·      Public Diary – makes your diary available for viewing by anybody, including visitors who are not members of Open Diary.

·      OD Members Only – only other members of OD will be able to read your diary. This is the default privacy setting.

·      Favorites Only – your diary will only be available to OD members that are on your Favorites list. Other members will not be able to read your diary.

·      Private Diary – only you will be able to read your diary. It will not appear on any lists or indices within the site, and it will not show up in any site searches.

If you are an Open Diary Plus member, you can also grant people access to your diary with a Reader's Password.

The next setting on this screen is Notes Type. This determines what type of notes you will allow readers to leave on your diary. The choices for notes type are:

·      All notes – your diary will accept notes from any visitor, and notes will not have to be signed with the noter’s name.

·      Signed notes – only signed notes will be accepted from other members of Open Diary. This means that each note will automatically be signed by the system with a link to the noter’s diary. This is the default notes setting.

·      No notes – your diary will not accept any notes.

The final setting on this screen is for the privacy of your favorites list. You can select whether to make this list visible to your readers with the Your Favorites setting. To allow other members to view your Favorites list, select Public Favorites list. If you want to keep your Favorites list private, select Private Favorites list.

When you are finished changing your privacy settings, click the Continue button. This will take you to the Diary Front Page screen.
