Some College tips
There are a few things I’ve learned since I started my freshman year of college. I’d like to share them with others, and so I’ve decided to compile a list of things that I’ll be putting in here and posting both in my Diary and in the college Circle.
1. If you have a weak, or unpredictable immune system, online courses are the better option.
My immune system, because of the cerebral palsy is god awful unpredictable. It sucks because I never know how many days at a time I will be in classes. I miss my friends when I’m not there, but that really isn’t the issue at hand. The issue I have is getting behind on school work. Most of the time, I have been on top of shit, but with the end of the semester fast approaching, I’m in a time crunch, and every moment of my day has to be spent on school right now until the very end. (and 2 days after the Aloha Girl’s graduation, I am right back at the books!)
2. Make sure to constantly keep your instructors in the loop.
If something is going amiss throughout your semester for any reason, it is a great idea to clue your teachers in. If they know that something is going on, they are more likely to work with you. They want you to succeed. Whether it’s personal issues at home (and you don’t even have to go into great detail there) , or consistent health problems, they are there to support you. I know that my five instructors have been the reason I keep persevering.
3. Get Involved!
The best thing about college is getting involved in various campus organizations. I belong to one club called A.A.V. This club promotes various volunteer opportunities and I’ve really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I got really sick the first time we were going to do an event, so I probably lost favor with the club president. I still need to reconcile with her. (Again, communicate, communicate, communicate!)
Getting involved is the best advice I’ve gotten from my Peer mentors. Getting involved has garnered me plenty of friends, and moral supporters in my various struggles this first semester.
~~ I have a few more tips, but I think I’ll leave you guys with these top 3. If you want more advice, just Ping me on this entry or send me a private message. I am always eager to help out as much as I can!
