Blogathon # 43: Songs on my MP3 player
Time Posted: 6:01am EST
It’s time to tackle another question. Someone who’s been reading my entries tonight asked if I have an MP3 player (of course…) and if so what kind of songs I have on it. I don’t have a massive MP3 player, just a small one that hold 50 songs but that’s enough to go to the gym with which is what I use it for. You can tell a lot about a person by the songs they like to store on their MP3 player. So without further adue and with help from You Tube, here are ten songs that you can find on my MP3 player…

Four Seasons In One Day (Crowded House)
I love Crowded House, and this is one of five songs I have stuffed on the player. This is my personal favorite, and they’re on tour this year for the first time in ten years. Unfortunately even though there is a show in Toronto, it sold out too fast for me to land any tickets. Maybe next time…
Call & Answer (Barenaked Ladies)
Gotta love the local band, and these guys rule. This song was also on the ‘Ed TV’ soundtrack, hence the clips in the video… but it’s a killer song and one of the best from this band. It’s up there with their stuff from Gordon…
Lascia Ch’io Pianga (Farinelli)
This amazing piece is from an impressive movie titled Farinelli: il castrato, a movie made in Italy about the last castrated opera singer. This singer doesn’t exist. They had to slice together four different singers and over a thousand sound clips just to match the power and amazing vocal range of the castratos. While the movie seems like it’s about an opera singer who lives like a victorian rock star, it’s actually a powerful character drama about a castrato that must live with a career that he didn’t pick the sacrifices that he had to endure to retain his vocal power. Worth checking out, and the songs are amazing…
Vivo Per Lei (Andre Bocceli & Helene Segara)
I first heard this song at my cousin’s wedding. She and her new husband played this song for their first dance at their reception. It’s a beautiful song, and from what I heard a very popular choice for wedding songs. I like it, and it’s why it’s on the MP3 player.
Vertigo (U2)
There is actual word going around that the band is going to ‘experiment’ again with their music, which I am sure has many fans groaning their displeasure. The last two albums were killer, and while their last ‘experiment’ phase wasn’t all that bad, I’m sure they’ll make a good effort at it no matter what direction they take. You can definitely say they’re not doing it for money, cause if that was their only modivation, they’d make a million clones of this song and pump them out every year for the dough…
Purple Rain (Prince, or whatever he calls himself these days…)
I’m not ashamed to say I like this song. As far as I’m concerned, ‘Purple Rain’ is one of the best albums of the 80’s. This is Prince’s best work, and the reason why I have three killer songs from that album on the MP3 player…

You were the last thing I read before going to bed and the first thing I read when I woke up. You’re impressing the crap out of me.

Call & Answer is a song that got me through a breakup. Barenaked Ladies is one of two bands I’ve seen in concert and enjoyed them most of all! They improvise some of their lyrics, which is very cool of them. There’s something about their voices I really like too.
