Reflections on a screaming child

Before Ryan came into our lives, I never realized how much work raising a kid is.  When people told us that we wouldn’t be getting any sleep, well, that’s only part of it.  When he is awake, he needs constant attention.  He needs to be rocked or massaged or played with or cleaned up after a projectile poo.  I don’t know how a teenager can ever be prepared for something like this.  I’m not a very patient person.  I won’t instant resolution to problems, instant response and instant everything.  Ryan doesn’t work that way.  He’ll quit screaming when he’s good and ready.  We’ve discovered what he likes (and doesn’t like).

Likes:  Cuddling, the boobs, his activity center (for about 20 minutes), the stroller and his baby bjorn

Dislikes:  Lying on his back, being alone for any length of time, and his digestive system

I never imagined I could love the little guy this much.  He’s tough to deal with but he’s just so damn cute that you can’t help but love him.  *grin*  I can’t wait to get home and be tortured by his scream for few hours.  Sick, isn’t it?

As crazy as this sounds treasure these moments while you can. I would much rather hear a babies scream than a pre-pubescent girl’s sighs, stomps to her room and door slams. In short — IT GETS WORSE!! 🙂

yes, very sick. 🙂 I am still trying to figure out what parenting would be like — your entry is typical of parents: they complain about the kids for 2 paragraphs, then say how great it is. 🙂

now, that’s why I’m afraid of parenthood… and at the same time I know I want kids… just my chromosomes doing their job, I guess. ryn I am also more of a lurker 🙂
