the best shots XI

It’s a two fer special today; the best shots X was posted previously, but there are lots more to show, so here we go, the best shots XI.

It’s 1985, on the South Rim of The Grand Canyon in Arizona, and it’s a superlative sunset.  This was the third time I’d been there, and this time, I got to take my Japanese wife to see one of the great wonders of the world.  Lost in thought, she took my picture.

I had my dad’s camera then, a Leica that he bought in Germany after his college days, when he did the bicycle tour of Europe.  It’s a cliche now, but it wasn’t then, and as a GI Bill scholar, he did the Grand Tour of Post-War Europe.  That camera was entirely manual; I learned a lot using it.

Shoot.  Come to think of it, I can’t remember if these were Lieca shots or if I was using my Pentax ME Super.  Either way, they are 35mm shots.  Scanned with a 32 bit scanner, the previous generation to what I have now.

It has been 27 years since I last saw The Grand Canyon, and it is time to go again, I think.  Maybe maybe maybe – I’m just 28 minutes short of Full Time, driving a School Bus, and with the new contract, it pays better than ever, so if I play my cards right, perhaps I’ll be able to fly in to Las Vegas and rent a car and go here again.  (Vegas is a cheap destination)

That’s a new thought; it’s taken nearly ten years to recover fully, physically and finacially from the car wreck in 98, but I’m almost there.

I was in Vegas last year with my girls, I can’t believe how much it had changed since I was last there in the early 90’s. It’s nuts.. I don’t think I’ll be going back anytime soon. I’d rather have peace and quiet on a beach somewhere…hell I can dream can’t I. It’s cold and blowing snow outside right now. Take care Cat,

I like Las Vegas for the cheaper flights and car rentals. It is within driving distance of some beautiful places, such as Death Valley and Grand Canyon.

Mom just sent an e-mail for cheap Vegas flights around March. We should grab Monacita and hit Death Valley and Grand Canyon! Big Bear

*reads the note from Big Bear* I think that is a wonderful idea! I’d definately be up for that and it would be a great opportunity to take more pictures.
