Stonehenge in Washington ss

Sam Hill, who had made his fortune in lumber was appalled by the loss of life in World War Two.  He had visitied England and was impressed by Stonehenge.  At that time, it was believed that stonehenge was the site of human sacrifices to the Gods, and Hill felt that Stonehenge could memorialize the citizens from his state and county who had died in the war; he built a full size reproduction of Stonehenge in Washington State, on the Columbia River:

 

 

 

 

I drove out here yesterday.  It’s about an hour and a half east of Portland.  This is a rather long slideshow, but it’s that kind of place.
