N17 in Portland Oregon
Occupy Portland is on the move today, protesting "Big Banks", After closing the Steel Bridge this morning, and several streets downtown They are now, at noon, blocking entrances to the Wells Fargo tower. Police are making arrests but in general, the atmosphere is non-violent.
N17 is November 17, protesting big banks and corporate profitteering. The goal is to "shut down" big banks. Randy Blazak, the "go-to" sociology professor at PSU compares today’s actions to The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s.
Today, my bus charter will take me to one of the outlying cities of the metro area, so today’s protests may not affect me or my job, but the news has gone to full coverage of Occupy Portland. Over a thousand protestors are "on the march" in Downtown Portland. Maybe many more – large crowds are shown on the Noon News.
The Occupy Movement seems more organised today than in the past – media liaisons are in full deploy and managing the News crews watching this movement. The bank corridor downtown is being targeted today.
The movement seems to be growing – more people are joining in. The movement demands that the banks suspend foreclosures on homes in Portland and in Oregon.
The siuation is in flux now.
