The Lord of The Rings
I own this series, the movies made from the books. I read those books seven times by the time I was 25, twenty-five years ago. I know the story well.
When K* came in February, she had not seen all of the story; the first three or four nights she was here, we watched each of the three movies and a lot of the "extras" on the DVDs. I have seen the full movie several times. I own it.
As I said, I KNOW the story.
"The Fellowship of The Ring" is on TV now.
Due to the brain injury I got in the car wreck in 1998, I have memory losses for my visual impressions. I can own, like I do these three movies; I can see movies, and not fully remember what I have seen.
On the one hand, oh shit.
On the other, well, I can see movies I KNOW are "good" over and over and they will be almost "new" to me every time.
My visual memory was damaged in the wreck.
(let me remind you; it was not an accident. I did not crash my car on purpose, that I remember, but I was drunk and furious, that my life was getting fucked over by the State of California. Whiskey and anger do not mix well. I did not crash my car on purpose, but I did not care then either, and awoke surprised in the hospital six weeks later)
Yet again in my life I had real reason to say, "It could be worse".
Some damage to my visual memory?
A VERY small price to pay for my life, returned to me.
Still, it is disturbing to KNOW that I have seen a movie, and not remember scenes.
