almost midnight
The weather looked crappy, and it was, and I thought about not going east to try to see the sun’s eclipse.
I didn’t want to sit here and think "I shoulda gone" so I did.
Go, that is.
A little thought might have helped; driving east, the sun was behind me so, had I been able to see much of it, I wouldn’t have seen the eclipse.
Another thing is this: Peter Skeen Ogden state park/rest area is NOT on US 26.
I drove 26 all the way to Prineville – 140 miles, and thought, "oh shit, I missed it". No one knew what I was asking about at the McDonalds I finally stopped at.

Slow burn in the parking lot by me.
And then I pulled out a AAA map.
The Peter Skeen Ogden rest area is on US 97, not US 26.

I would write a self-deprecating entry about being less than brilliant, but I don’t feel like running myself down.
It turned out I was about 25 miles southeast of the rest area on 97; 97 and 26 split just south of Madras, so I cut up to Redmond from Prineville on OR 126 and ran into 97/26, again, and did indeed find Peter Skeen Ogden roadside rest area.
The eclipse was long past by then, and the light was going, but I got out and took some pictures anyway; since I recently got home, they are still in the camera. I’ll edit them tomorrow and post any that I like.

The sum of the day’s drive:
6 hours 14 minutes engine run time, 301.5 miles traveled. Highest speed 80 mph, average speed, 50 mph.
I’m not sure how many pictures I took; more than a few, but we’ll see what we have tomorrow.

I LIKE central Oregon; the land around Warm Springs calls to me; it reminds me of Arizona, where I lived in the late 70’s.

chalk it up as an adventure, cat. another story to be told.

We’re never too old to learn, and it’s not nice to confront our own stupidity from time to time. lololol. But that’s part of life, we learn something new in our mistakes as well, right? Glad you were able to see something after your effort.

I really like Warm Springs too and other areas of central Oregon. I’ve always been drawn to desert-type of climates.
