1st day of Pre-K!!!
Eliana could not take it anymore. Today around 3 she begged,” Please Mommy, I want you to start homeschooling me NOW!”
Now we all know that I have been teaching her all along, but she wanted something formal.
I, of course, was not ready, I am better at flying by the seat of my pants anyway. So I replied, “Ok honey, let’s start right now!”
She danced around for a bit filled with excitement. While she was busy with that I went and brought out a magnetic calendar. She came over and we put it all together. We went over the days of the week and the months of the year and did regular calendar type things.
She danced around some more saying how much she loved school.
I then went and brought out a big Mellissa and Doug puzzle with the different letters of the alphabet. I took the letters out and put them in a pail and she closed her eyes while I sang a made up song about fishing for letters. When we picked one out she would tell me the letter, the sound(s) it made, and a word or two that started with that letter. She would then put the letter in the right place of the puzzle. It was very easy for her but she loved it.
She clapped her hands when she was done and asked for more. I got out a big piece of paper and wrote her name and had her rainbow write on it while I tried to figure out what else to do. I found a fishing puzzle, and wrote sight words I know she knows and hid them under the fish.
“Ta-Da,” my daughter sang as she finished up her rainbow writing. I was ready with the fishing game and we played it twice. She loved it.
I had her do some cutting practice with some lines I drew on scrap paper. Then I divided up a piece of paper and had her stamp whatever number I wrote, so 8 she made 8 stamps. She loved it too.
I then said it was time for recess. I set the timer for 12 minutes and used that time to cut up a center I had. I got done just in time and we put spikes on dinosaurs for a bit up to 20.
We then read two emergent readers, and I read a regular book to her, and now we are on a snack break.
Oh my goodness what in the world am I in for??!?!?!?
OH and good news, Daniel is done with that stupid report. Good thing though is sat and sun hours count for the next week, so he might be able to take thurs and fri off. He’s at the gym right now. We couldn’t put Eliana in kids club due to her cough, so we are going to trade at the gym at 7:30. I have to be really careful because my foot is giving me more trouble thea I have had for a long time.

Are you planning on doing home school for her .. or is this just something that she just came up with out of the blue ? Sounds like you did well .. probably cause you have all this stuff for doing this type of learning. Hope you have a good day. Take care.

Will you follow any type of curriculum or just “wing it.” I wish I had homeschooled my children. Good for you!

You are in for it for sure! Best investment I made while we were homeschooling was a language program…we all learned together and it was a fun filler when I was out of ideas

Sounds like a GRRRR-8 first day of school! I’m glad that Daniel finished that report. Hope he has a big sleep and rests up so he can do fun things with you this weekend.

I blinked there for a minute wondering what had happened (based on the title). Sounds like you did great! 🙂

That’s adorable that she wanted to start right away. I’m glad she enjoyed it. Good job coming up with a fulfilling day of school. If she likes fishing, you can use a dowel rod and attach a string to it with a magnet at the end of the string. Then use cardstock to make fish with whatever you want on them. Letters, numbers, words, etc. Put a paperclip on each fish and they will stick to thefishing pole. I have used this with all ages – addition or subtraction problems with the numbers they fish, any level of sight words, etc. Sounds like she is feeling better! Glad Daniel finished the report. 🙂

It’s funny…..that’s stuff I do with Eric and Emily every day and don’t even think about it as schooling. Makes me feel better.

I had good luck with the elliptical with my feet, but I’m not sure how yours will react.
