Updates on stuff, 29 July
Hi there, folks!
How we all doin’ today? Oh come on, it’ll get better.
You want news first and then the funny (true) story, or the story first?
Hm, what say you?
(pause)
Okay, we’ll end with the story.
News first:
Son got a job – he’s a table runner at this new brick oven pizza place about 15 min walk from the house, so he walks to work and back. He’s got the 6-10 pm shift, 4 nites a week right now. He actually is having a blast. More on that in a later entry.
Daughter had a 48 hour ambulatory EEG (brain scan recording) – and they still didn’t see any real seizures. So all the weakness, confusion, weak knees episodes she’s having are not seizures. Next they do a test called the tilt table, it’s looking for changes in blood pressure and heart rate as one goes from horizontal to vertical. My guess right now is that they’ll eventually decide it’s a combination of postural hypotension (BP drops when you stand up -duh) and anxiety attacks. She’s planning to go back to her regular university at the end of August.
Sweety and I have started a massive repainting job at the house – interior rooms. We finished the upstairs hallway, stairway and front entryway this weekend (at least, got the walls done, need to do trim soon), and we’ll start on living room, dining room, den and kitchen soon too. yeah, we’re nuts.
Sweety has submited her resignation from her hellhole. Aug 12 is her last day. Lots of issues and stuff surrounding that, but it is for the good. They were too assholish to deserve someone as concientious as her, and she deserves a lot better than that place. So there.
Funny story:
I was reminded of this by ADogGroomersLife’s stories of her noisy upstairs neighbors – they’re getting sound insulation soon, let’s all hope that works.
Anyway, my story. Okay this really really is true. Back in college, I had this nice little apartment on the 1st floor, and right above me was this nice single lady, Liz, that I occasionally spoke too. I also had a girlfriend at the time, Peggy, and my good friend Mark. Well, Mark would come over, and every once in a while, he’d see Liz, and I could tell she caught his eye – he thought she was cute. Well, he hemmed and hawed so long that Peg and I got fed up, we asked Liz to join us for chinese food one nite and didn’t give Mark any choice. Well, they really hit it off, and within a few months he’s spending most nites at Liz’s place.
Now, obviously, both apartments are laid out the same, so her bedroom is right above mine. And every few nites, I’d hear "squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak" as their bed made noise for quite a while. I found it very funny, and tried not to laugh too loud, but it did keep me awake on occasion.
So, there’s one nite where it’s just Mark and me, so we head to the local tavern and we’re knocking down pitchers. Now, I’m not that big (probably 120, 125 lbs in college), but it still took me well into the 2nd pitcher to get the courage up to say:
"uh, Mark, there’s shomething I need to tell you"
"whassat?"
"your bed squeaks"
"oh. OH"
the furniture people delivered a new bed and mattress 2 days later.
take care everyone

I once woke up to a girl yelling “Hey, there big penis!” when I was in college, it took me a little while to realize the voice was on the other side of the wall. Thankfully, the beds didn’t have springs, so I didn’t have to listen to that. I hope that everything goes well with your daughter. Thank God they ruled out seizures. Lots of hugs, John

Oh geeze- yuck. When we first got the new neighbors and the noise issues- their bedroom is directly above ours… and yup…. I just do not want to hear that.. and I did one night. I will not go to bed without my noise cancelling head phones now and usually with a sleep meditation playing in my ears.
