Another Year Older, No Wiser!

I haven’t written because I have been in such a bad mood all week until Sunday. Sunday and church always improves my mood. Let’s just say this and then get over it. I hate birthdays! Every year I swear I am going to go off by myself on the two days of my birthday the next year. For those of you that don’t know, my birthday is February 29th so I just have a real birthday every 4 years. When I was a kid I enjoyed bing different and the other kids thought it was neat. As an adult I hate it! My family ignores it since there is no date that is my birthday. Every year I say to myself not to let it bother me but it always does. Turning 70 isn’t exactly a picnic anyway ! LOL! If it wasn’t for Facebook birthday wishes, it would have been just like any other day.

Enough of that. As I said church on Sunday improved my spirit except one little irritant.  I volunteered to be permanent sub for Children’s Church.  Sunday was the first time since January that I didn’t have to teach CC. I love the kids but I really missed being able be in the sanctuary for services.  But it wasn’t long before one of the teachers for next Sunday told me she couldn’t be there and needed me to sub. Ok, no problem, the remaining teacher would be responsible for the lesson, craft/game, music etc. Then during Sunday School the other one told me that she couldn’t be there next Sunday either!! One month a year with plenty of time to plan for it and you both have to be gone one of the Sundays? Really, then why did you volunteer for it!?! I totally understand if it was illness etc. but neither of these were.  I have already been the monthly teacher for 2 months, that’s 1 more than anyone else. OK, enough of that.

On to more pleasant topics. I picked up Don’s grandchildren from school last week and will again this week. I brought them chocolate chip cookies the first day. That seemed to go over well. LOL! Reese is 8 and Ashton is 10. Reese is really opening up and getting more comfortable with me but Ashton is just like I was at her age, bashful! Their mother, Micki said they both really liked my car. That surprised me because it is 20 years old! But is has some extras that most newer cars don’t have so I guess it was foreign to them.

Our Sunday School class has been supporting a single mother, with a severe disability, for over a year. We have been paying her bills to the tune of around $900 a month. Because of that we haven’t been able to give to anything or anyone else. She is unable to work but so far hasn’t been able to get disability. She also was told she couldn’t get the Child Tax Credit. We didn’t believe that was correct so I hired an attorney to do her taxes and they told her the same thing. That was $60 down the drain for nothing. She is planning to have a garage sale as soon as the weather cooperates so we are going to donate items to her to sell. I have been purging and giving a lot of things to the local thrift store so I will give them to her instead. Otherwise I don’t know what she is going to do to support herself and her two kids. Our Sunday School class just can’t go on forever. We didn’t even have enough in the treasury to pay her rent completely this month. She is from Jerusalem and converted from Judaism to Christianity and her family disowned her for that.

This is getting long and it’s getting late. I think the bed is calling my name……..

Loretta, dol says they aren’t required to pay vacation pay or holiday pay at all unless a federal contractor or prearranged agreement of your employment, in which case it should follow the terms of the agreement.

@dlk082244 We did have an agreement because I told them that I would not work holidays unless I got holiday pay. BUT it was verbal only and I’m sure they wouldn’t back me up on it. Thanks for checking. I looked at the site but wasn’t understanding everything I was reading or reading in the right place. Thanks again!

The big 7-0 and they did not even acknowledge it? I wish I was there I would have gone to lunch with you were something.

March 6, 2018

@startingover_1 That was another problem. I am fasting for Lent so I couldn’t even take myself out for a nice lunch/dinner. But if you had been here I would have cheated just a little! LOL!

Yep, that is how my b’days happen. Nothing except FB. A card would help from either adult kid. A phone call would be nice. Ah well, at least there is FB.

@middleagepearl EXACTLY! Birthday gifts for the adults from me may dwindle this year. LOL!

March 6, 2018

@kls2kezer Sounds like a good plan. My bday is coming up. It will be interesting to see if anything happens outside of FB. I for sure won’t get anything from my kid, since he hasn’t spoken to me in over 7 years, but there are other people in the world. Maybe my sister?

Happy Birthday! So sorry your family didn’t acknowledge! That’s just not right. I guess that is why God says we can’t rely on anyone but him! He loves you and he hasn’t forgotten you! That poor woman you guys are supporting! Praying that God finds a way for her financially and physically! xoxo

@buttonishlady Thank you so much. She needs many prayers!

Belated 70th.  I would be a bit annoyed as well.  That is an amazing gift of giving from your church to that single mother.  Where on earth would she be without your support. Her future does not seem too bright.  A lot of prayer needed over this.

@leonalia Thank you so much, Leonalia! Our church is known for being one of the most giving churches in the area and I love that. Devorah is so grateful and does everything she can to try to make it on her own.
