For Dearest Danielle:
Dear Danielle,
I have to start off by apologizing profusely for taking so long to reply to your entry. You are indeed my best friend in the whole wide world and I feel horrible for making you wait so long to hear the same encouraging words that you so graciously bestowed upon me.
I also want to point out that you expressed our friendship in such a way that no words I could write could ever compete: but I will try.
I have mentioned before that I think we have become totally different people in the past six years and I wouldn’t trade them for the world. Sure we had great times in high school doing e-brake slides and walking around bitching about certain teachers, but in high school we never did stuff like go camping all on our own and yell profanities at a man with a presumably small penis, spend an ENTIRE night in a bar drinking 18 shots and making friends with the bar tenders or stalking a movie set just for the hell of it, even though we really didn’t care about the movie stars…it was the thrill of the chase.
I think that it just took us a while to grow up (if you can count doing shots of vodka until we puke our guts out “growing up”) for us to be such great friends. We were able to build that rare kind of friendship that stays with you long after graduation.
So here’s toooo:
1. Getting a lap dance from a drag queen and spilling the mystery drink
2. Making friends with B-Rade-E and Buddha
3. Sitting at the MO. Dry Dock for 3 hours waiting for “action”
4. Almost dying on the bridge just so we could get good pictures
5. Spending an entire afternoon inside Hobby Lobby just because we can
6. The color green
7. Snakes who like to swim up all in my business
8. Popcorn kernel toasting
9. “Escorting” friends back home when WE’RE the ones who need guidance!
10. BG’s potato skins with extra sour cream
11. You being my therapist for free (the real ones just charge WAYY too much and they’re never as funny.)
12. Eating blue ice cream just so we can have blue teeth
13. Becoming a mummy by wrapping your head in tape
14. Not dying on that car ride home from Carbondale
15. evilgreenjello
16. Delta Bomber/Motherhen (always and forever!)
17. Sneaking booze into wherever we can via flask, large purses, Styrofoam cups, or whatever means we deem necessary
18. RENT watching/singing
19. ACTUALLY using the coconut cups with island inspired adult beverages
20. LIVING IN COLUMBIA TOGETHER THIS SUMMER!
We’ve done so many things together and have always been there for each other. Words cannot describe how excited I am to be moving to CoMo this summer! I know we’ll have a great time, make many new memories and probably spend a little time re-living homecoming weekend – only not nearly as bad.
You’ve really helped me through these past few months. I know I’ve had a lot of issues with Nathaniel and things haven’t exactly been great, but I know that whenever I’m crying at 12:30 in the morning I can always call you and you’ll have me laughing in less than 10 minutes. Because that’s what best friends do. And I hope that you feel I do the same for you. Although it may not be as often, it is definitely done with much heart-filled concern.
I smile whenever I see on facebook that I’m in your family. And it really does feel that way. I could say that we’re like sisters, but my sisters are 12 and 4 and I wouldn’t exactly talk to them about my boyfriend or take them out to bars for shots…so maybe that’s a bad comparison. But I definitely think that we have a very close and connected friendship that will last a lifetime.
Thanks for being so supportive and listening, even when you have a 5 page paper due the next day and it’s 1:15 in the monring. Thanks for writing OD entries and facebook notes that make me smile. But most imoprtantly, thanks for being my best friend.
aw.. that made me laugh so much. i even read the list aloud to becca, and i just don’t think she gets it. but i get it, don’t worry. i understand what we’ve come through (like the end of sophomore year and part of junior) to get where we are. and now we’re cool and people want to be us. i can’t wait til this summer, i am so ready for it. we’re going to have a great time minus..

the porch incident because i’m not sure i can scrape that stuff up again. 🙂 but here’s to being best friends and to staying best friends (i’d propose a toast but I’m sure we’ve taken numerous shots and ate many a popcorn kernel to this exact toast) awwww best friends.
