This is my home. Well, I don’t live IN this- I live in a neighborhood. But, this is the heart of my city anyway. You have commercial/shopping areas surrounding the heart with residential areas mixed in. But, I live within walking distance to here. When everything was shut down during stay at home, we’d go out and walk the dogs and this is where we’d be. Walk here, walk around, walk back.
I did not take these photos, but they are beautiful. My city is known for its “clustered spires” and its historic. So is everything downtown, in the city’s heart, is protected. Its all original and cannot be remodeled- only reinforced.
You could live downtown if you wanted to but you’d have to be a gazillionaire. And you’d have to enjoy parallel parking. I would most definitely give up the home of my dreams if it required me to parallel park.
In the winter, so about right now, they drain the creek and bring the water low. There are coy fish in there but evidently they hibernate. Anyway, they drain the water low and put up Christmas light sail boats, and they put lights in all of the trees. It really is a magical place.
Downtown is pretty big and each street is full of little Mom and Pop’s shops like this one. Restaurants, boutiques, salons, scene kids all over the place, hipster hangouts. Some of these places have been there forever. There are way too many “for lease” signs there now. Its a tradition for Justin and I to go shopping down there each year for Christmas… he can parallel park 😉! We won’t be going this year. Neither of us have the time, but also, pandemic has changed things of course.
