Nothing makes me happier than nature and being outdoors. When I have free time, you can usually find me watching the birds at the feeder, taking a walk around the yard, or tending to my garden in the summer. We live on seven acres that include a pond and woods and we are surrounded by farm fields. This is a record of the sights and sounds of nature around me.

The clock is ticking. I woke up 59 years old today. Technically not until 11:55pm. A Capriquarius I am. (And people wonder why I have a life in a constant tug-of-war. Ha!) But there is a snowstorm. So it'll be leftovers for supper, no going out. I am not surprised. If it is not snowing…

I haven't been canceled yet, so may as well get this off my brain. I left early Saturday morning to drive an hour and meet my new grand nephew born in November and get reacquainted with the other grand nephew born during the height of the pandemic. While it was nice to see the kids,…

I've decided not to renew OD. There's just too much dysfunction and sad tales and woe-is-me-the-victim and I take it all in and then worry about it which is ridiculous because I think sometimes I worry more than the diarists do! The music diary diarist was my breaking point, spamming this site li...

Temp 22F Sky Cloudy W NW 5mph It is national pizza week. My first attempt at homemade GF pizza turned out sooo well, I had to take a picture. The crust is cornmeal, GF flour, egg, yeast, baking powder, oil, and oregano. Under the cheese is sauce, mushrooms and green pepper. Baked in a 10"…

Temp 28F Sky Mostly Cloudy Freezing rain overnight has made the roads slick, cars that usually pass by at 50-55mph are creeping along 15-20. About a half mile out on the main hwy I saw flashing lights and zoomed in with my camera. Truck slid off the road. But closer to home, this is what…

Temp 20F Sky Fog Incredibly still and quiet today. Except for the brief 2-notes of a chickadee and the occasional passing vehicle, the only sound was the crunch of my boots on the snow. I switched to winter hiking boots today, as my bad foot is getting worse. It needs more support than my snowboo...

Temp 7F Sky Clear, light fog My walks are taking 10 minutes longer each morning due to the snow. The parts that aren't on the driveway I plod along rather than walk along. It is difficult to pick up the pace on rough (snowy) terrain. The sun is not yet up when I start at…

Temp 18F (low -8) Sunny Walk or nap? That was my major decision for the day. I chose walk. With a clear blue sky as the backdrop, dog and I set off across the field to see what we could see. Our house is in the clump of trees: Not sure what made these tracks,…

Temp 11F Sky Fog  Snow Season 26" So it was an additional 3" making the storm total 12". The roads are back to pavement so I plan to visit the grandkids on Sunday and deliver long overdue Christmas gifts. And I'll get to see the youngest crawl, in person instead of video call. It was…

Temp 28F  Snow 4"  W NW 10-15 My estimate of 9" yesterday was spot on and I'm guestimating that since yesterday morning we got another 3" so at least a foot of heavy wet snow over 3 days. In rain terms, it's about 1.5" of moisture. The plows are out in full force and salting…
