Miami musings…

Lady Wife and I had an absolutely smashing time in Miami!  We stayed at the Setai, and our suite was luxurious, the spa indulgent, and the service poolside or on the beach was impeccable.  Even the weather cooperated, with days in the low-80’sF.  We returned pampered, relaxed and rejuvenated.

A lovely surprise was an intimate French restaurant, Pied à Terre.  Tucked away in the Cadet Hotel, this is true French cuisine.  And what a wine list!  We dined there 3 times, as I wanted to work my way through their entire menu.  Nothing disappointed.

Another treat was an Art Deco Walking Tour.  The guide was so knowledgeable, and we came away with so much appreciation for the architecture, and the coded meanings contained in the terrazzo floors of the hotels.  Triangles, circles or squares in the motif were messages that drinking and/or gambling were available on the premises, and that “unaccompanied women” were welcome at the establishment.  Remember that this was during Prohibition!

South Beach has done an amazing job of preserving their architectural heritage, and their history (only about 100 years of it!) is fascinating.

On Saturday, we attended a luncheon on the Celebrity Equinox, one of those ghastly monstrosities of a cruise ship plying the seas these days.  I was glad that we boarded, had lunch, and disembarked, as being at sea on that thing is my idea of hell.  So many people, and bad taste everywhere you looked.  It was like a floating Las Vegas.
