So stupid

Last night around 7PM I could hear fireworks coming from downtown. It was a bit early for fireworks since it doesn’t get dark here until around 8:30. Then I saw that D was watching CNN – it was showing footage of the national guard throwing flash bangs at the protestors on the 101 freeway about 5 miles from my house.

I’ve been half way ignoring the second Trump administration. I decided after he was elected that the best way to deal with him and the national stupidity of his second administration was to just ignore it. It actually kind of works. I know that even though I’m very far to the left, all the news, all of it, is geared to make viewers fearful and angry. Doesn’t matter if it’s Fox or MSNBC, it’s about getting attention. Outrage. Trump is a total piece of shit, but he’s not Hitler. He’s just a corrupt clown who will rob us blind.

And this business with the national guard and now the marines downtown, that’s just a show for his fans. They’ll get nothing real out of it, just spectacle.  The national guard is bored. They don’t have enough to do. They’re going to protect us from a handful of people throwing Lime scooters off the overpass? Two Waymo taxis get torched? That’s the riot? I’ve seen FSU homecoming games result in more violence and destruction.  I’m not saying something couldn’t go off. That’s what they want – they want an excuse to open fire and mow down as many Angelenos as they can. The flimiest of pretext will do.

But I kind of don’t think it’s going to go off. Right now the protestors are line dancing for the troops and singing songs. I think most of them understand, give fascists an excuse, and they will kill you. I know they think they’re the real America. They’re not wrong – we are everything except willing to stop this bullshit. Honestly, I hope Trump gets to do everything he wants to do because he will destroy this country, and we will get what we deserve for putting him in charge.

Of course, it doesn’t matter. Republicans act like they didn’t vote for George W Bush even though they now think he’s the worst – and they for sure hate Dick Cheney. Democrats say they wouldn’t vote for Bill Clinton again now that we all basically can admit he was a sex pest (at the very least) and his banking deregulation and globalization is pretty much why we’re in the economic, winner-takes-all shit-show we’re in right this moment.

It’s all dumb. So I’m ignoring it. It will be bad, but it probably won’t be that bad for me. Or maybe I’m just kidding myself.
