Ankhesnamun & Nefertiti

All three kitties are back under one roof.

I’ve been in my new apartment for a week or so, and I only had Imhotep with me for company. I didn’t want to haul them all over because: (1) the management thinks I only have two cats; and (2) the management was still doing work in the apartment, including installing a screen door to the balcony, and I didn’t want to have to corral the two cats who don’t listen to keep them from running outside.

They put the door in (technically; it’s sort of broken, but it is present!) this afternoon, so now it’s time for the kitty reunion.

Imhotep was clearly not expecting to see any of his brethren (sisteren?) again. (They all did this the first time Peter showed for a visit a month after I moved to Pittsburgh ahead of him, and it was funny, then, too.) Ankhesnamun and Nefertiti very much missed their former digs and seemed very confused by the move.

I knew there would be fighting for territorial dominance once I unleashed them all together, partially because they always fight in the same way and partially because I knew that Imhotep saw the new apartment as his alone, so I took some precautions. I closed the bedroom door to all three of them, because I knew that, left to their own devices, I would soon have two hissing and spitting and fighting over the bed while the third cowered under it.

Naturally, this led to all three sitting peacefully in solidarity in front of the closed door and meowing piteously for the right to enter and go forth and do battle.

That’s so much a human reaction that I just have to laugh.
