Hi Ewes Me again. this is the error I am getting when clicking on notes View Index There was an error on this page. Please try again and if you continue to have this problem, please contact us via the ‘help menu’. I have not been able to click on notes and get notes for about three weeks now. If you can pass that on it would be appreciated.

Can you tell me and others if Od is staying around. What is the chance it is going to close down? Will we be forewarned? Is there anything we can do to keep it alive. I have been here since 1999 and would miss it very much.

Hi. Sorry to note you like this. Just wondering if there was a way to have my F.O. entries not show up in my diary unless you’re on my favourites while keeping my diary open to OD public generally – i’ve seen people with a diary that has one public entry for notes, and I’d like something like that…. my public entries being what you see if you’re not on favourites. Just want to tidy things up a bit if possible. thanks for any and all help

in the past, this incredible slow down of the site occurred when some advertiser went rogue. perhaps we have mal ware or spyware that is slowing the system? sorry, i am totally ignorant about what causes so many errors on a web site, but i do know that we have had problems with advertisers before.

The DiaryMaster is currently performing database maintenance on OpenDiary’s database to improve overall performance. In the meantime, there many be site slowdowns and timeout error messages that will be resolved once the maintenance cycle is complete. Eric

It would REALLY help if you would put dates on your front page notices. Is the site under maintenance again today? Are we going to experience slowdowns and off-lines again today? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep us informed, and get the DM involved in the day-to-day operation of this site. I haven’t been able to write an entry in days. When I click on the link to write an entry and the page opens up nothing loads, I can’t click the cursor into the box and the menu never opens to change font or anything. My preset tickers also don’t load into the entry. This has been going on for a while and I kept hoping that all the fixes would solve it, but so far it hasn’t so I am coming to you for help. Thanks.

My problem with OD is any background that is supposed to display color is showing all white. If I go to my bookmarks or check notes, my background doesn’t display at all. It’s been happening over the past couple of weeks, and I have no idea what’s the cause.

Just stopping by to Thank WHOEVER for the site and the work you all do to keep it chugging along. Can’t imagine what it takes but it’s appreciated more than you know. I’ve used OD for many, many yrs and it’s been great company & free therapy.

Thank you for leaving a helpful note on the 6th, especially because I didn’t ask you for it. I have gone back to writing entries on my laptop instead of trying on my Kindle fire. I still enjoy reading and noting on my Kindle, though.

Sorry, I’m not good at following RYNs on the same page. It did see it on the front later after noting… must have missed it at first. My apologies for that, and for not coming back to say thank-you. I really should have come back to say thank-you. Getting the same SQL error ‘80040e31’ on multiple ODs today, although I see other people are having the same time-out error. ‘Rella @ authorcode C100228 seems to be a repeat culprit; I left you a message about her before semi-recently ago. I’ve never seen it before that I could load someone’s front page, and their diary entry column lists an error. It times out a line 518 if I go directly to her page via her name, line 306 if I access her latest entry via my bookmarks. Not sure if that info is any useful for debugging purposes. Also, Mace @ authorcode A570431 was complaining about not seeing her background – same as Big George, she sees all white – but on my end, her diary views normally. Hope that helps, too.

I’m getting a timed out error when I try to look at my notes and it takes a very long time to go from one screen to another. Maybe there is more maintenance to be done? Thanks for your help.

ryn-Thanks, you’re probably right and I clicked on something by accident to cause my friend being blocked. It’s a better thought than thinking I’ve been hacked. See, that’s how it starts, get free Kindle app, get free Kindle books, then before you know it you want the Kindle. So it went for me. I love having the Kindle. I have over two thousand books, mostly free, some paid with real money. Iplay games and find it lovely to be able to play Scrabble and Words With Friends in bed. I still love my real paperback books, of course. So, buy a Kindle! I bought the Paper White for my daughter, since that’s what she wanted, but I have the Fire. Seriously, I know I’m speaking for more than just myself when I say that having you around to update us & to put in all the work to keep us looped in when the site’s being wonky is huge. Someone I read, ahem, elsewhere, had a theory that the huge database load may be to the huge uptick in spam diaries here. IDK, but worth a look. Thanks for your work on this place. what happened to the background colors? They load with the page, then disappear and everyone’s background is now white.

RYN: It’s not just the Bookmarks page…it’s throughout the entire diary. Bookmarks, Entry, Notes, etc.

Dear EWS: We had a teckie here who determined our speed was slower than the origonal dialup. One of my husbands gaming programs was eating bandwidth. We have closed that and closed a Norton online backup thing. We can now access OD tho parts of it still won’t load at any speed. This is progress.

dude everyone’s background is gone. i tried everything in my diary maintenance that i thought mighthelp. it flashes the background then it just disappears….for everyone i try to view and myself. did i click something to not show those images full-time?

At 1312, I timed out trying to get to my own page.

Please update the records so that I quit getting ads on my diary. I paid for my OD-plus about 2-3 days ago, but someone in the stream doesn’t seem to know that yet. Please—I can’t stand those ads!!!!

Loaded up OD and got the following error instead of Latest Entries:Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error ‘80004005’Transaction (Process ID 170) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction./Default.asp, line 528 also database errors trying to load people’s entries via diary titles (may/may not work by entering their ODs via their name and starting with their front pages). But the above is a new one.

Notice: I know about the numerous time out errors. I’m harassing The DiaryMaster about them incessantly. 😉 Eric

Possibly related to the other time out errors – note conversations and note by person get errors. 🙁

My my, look at all these technical complaints! Tsk! Me, I just came to thank you for the yummy-looking baked hot wings recipe! I’ve just looked up the Srirache sauce (no clue how to pronounce it, either, that was a crack-up!), but I do wonder if my wimp factor will find it a *little* too spicy hot? I generally can eat some cream cheese-filled jalapeños, or the medium heat Tostito cheese sauce, butafter that, my lips start burning, which is very much a negative distraction. (To each his/her own, eh?) But it looked very easy to do, and I liked how you speeded up the process, digitally, and added humor and music. What sort of sides do you prefer with it? Meanwhile, I’ll just wander off, licking my lips… and trying not to think of how annoying the notes list error messages are driving me bonkers! Hang in there, EWS!

I am still getting it in order to note you back I had to go back to the front page of OD to get to your diary b/c if I hit your link on the note you left I get that thing over and over again…I dunno why it’s doing it..

Just as I had to click twice to post the first note. You’ve got to get this site back in order as people are leaving here faster than they are joining up. Oh, their diaries are still here, but they no longer come to write or to read others. Most of them can be found over on Prosebox.

Hello Ewes, I am in Australia and finding the site is very slow to react to mouse clicks and moving from screen to screen. Is there problem with the hosting company or their ISP? I know it’s not at my end with my service shaped. Regards Richard Woolford

Not a complaint or error report, just a comment. It makes me so sad to see Open Diary in the shape that it is in. It just breaks my heart. Really, I don’t know what is to become of our beloved Open Diary and what the future holds. Doesn’t the Diary Master even care anymore? It seems as if you are the go between and I know that is a very difficult place to be. I bet you are saddened by all ofthis too. The Diary Master really needs to comment on the various issues and concerns that we have. Maybe it’s time to just close shop.
