Apartment Blabber, Baby.

Dave and I went and looked at a couple of loft apartments in the warehouse district of downtown yesterday afternoon. The layouts were cool but the apartments were old and looked like they needed to be cleaned. The Creamette Lofts (the building is the original Creamette Pasta Factory and where the pasta used to be made) were straight-up dirty looking. I told him, "The more we look, the better [my place of work] looks."

I know that we still have a lot of time to check things out and I don’t plan on making a decision within the next two months, even… but so far it does seem like the best option. I mean, we’d get a larger apartment for almost $400 less per month, we’d be living in a brand new building, we’d have our own full-sized washer and dryer, a gym that stays quiet 90% of the time, guest suites for when my parents come to visit, first choice of the apartments that become available for the month of August (which means I’ll get my top floor apartment and have a better chance of getting my favorite floorplan), free parking, and I’d get tax-free paychecks in the form of rent credit. Because I’ve worked there for almost a year I know what the buildings downsides are (bathroom vents are all connected which means Dave and I will need to get an apartment in one of the smoke-free wings; though the entire building will be completely smoke free by the summer of 2010).

Really I think the vents are the buildings only downside. Well, that and what my morning commute will be like. Our maintinence workers are there 24 hours per day so things get done when you need them done, the majority of the residents are in their late 20s and early to mid 30s so there is very, very little partying that goes on in the building, and I just know that I’d like living there. Also, with the money we’d be saving Dave could start saving for a car (which he really wants badly).

Enough about that for now.

Chloe’s baby, Julian, has almost missed his opportunity to be a cool 26er like Chloe, Brittany, Me, and a bunch of our other old friends (all of us were born on the 26th of the month. Chloe in February, Brittany in April, me in June, etc.). She isn’t due until April 12 (I think that’s the date? If not it’s around that date.).  I told her that she’s going to have to keep Julian in there for another month if he doesn’t make his appearance today. I think it’s a logical decision. I mean, I wouldn’t want him to feel left out when hanging around us.

I’m prepared for another lazy day. I fucking love spring break. I love not having responsibilities. I am a lazy, lazy lady.

I got a call back from a restaurant/cafe/coffee shop that I interviewed at about six months ago. They want to hire me as a host for their evening dinners. I think it’s funny because I’ve lived in Uptown for almost five years, have been half-heartedly looking for a job in the area for threeish, and may have finally gotten one only a few months before I move out of Uptown and into the suburbs. I haven’t called them back yet. I’m planning on calling today. I’ve been putting it off because I didn’t want to think about on my break (I’m just going to tell them that I’ve been on vacation out of the state, or something- hence having not called back).

I’m not going to pretend like I have something more important to do than sit here and type. No excuses. I’m instead going to tell you straight up that I have nothing more to say! So, I’m out.

The apartment above your workplace sounds like a no brainer (although I hate long commutes), and I’m excited to keep hearing about places you check out! I love the name Julian. 🙂

I think the commute would be worth the money you save and all the other perks of the building

I heard somewhere that the first child is usually late, so another two weeks might be pretty standard. 🙂

I agree — the apartment where you work sounds like the best idea. The commute will suck at first but you’d get used to it. That seems to be the only negative thing about it, really. You’ll have to let me know how those Nanaimo bars turn out if you try to make them! They are SOOOO GOOOD. And soooo bad for you. 🙂

the apartment where you work is just sounding better and better.

too bad about alternate transportation… but otherwise the work-apartments sound awesome… especially with all the money you’ll save!
