Labor Day Weekend! *Edit

Why can’t I have four day weekends every week?

This weekend has been wonderful. On Friday Dave and I went to the state fair for my sister Erin’s birthday. It was a blast- neither Dave nor I had been to the state fair since 2006 (coincidentally we went together on that day as well, along with my boyfriend at the time, Shawn, Clint, Rachel, and some other girl whose name escapes me right now. We went to the Flaming Lips concert, which was at the state fair grandstand that year). There were a total of twelve of us and between us all we ate Pronto Pups (essentially they’re corn dogs, but the corn breading is lighter and fluffier),  hot dish on a stick, giant pickles, pot roast sundaes, cheese on a stick, Sweet Martha’s cookies, pickle dogs, a cheeseburger (that was Dave), corn on the cob, gyros, chocolate covered jalapenos… I’m blanking as to what else but we tried a lot of different things. Beer flowed through us during the entire eight hours that we were there (we took the bus so we could!).

We walked through the Miracle of Birth barn and got to pet baby lambs and piglets, played games in the midway, and went on a couple of rides. Dave got convinced by a dude in a stand to buy a light-up t-shirt. (Dave is not a flashy guy so this was especially funny).

Saturday I did almost nothing aside from go for a morning run. Sunday morning I ran 3 1/2 miles but my knees paid for it dearly- even after ibuprofen and ice packs they hurt. They’re still sore today, so I’m not running.

After my run on Sunday I relaxed the afternoon away. As evening approached I received a phone call from my friend Rachel who informed me of the fact that our favorite happy hour spot had apparently built a rooftop patio (we had no idea this was happening!) and it had just opened up! I met her and her boyfriend Jeff there for a couple glasses of wine and Dave met up with us a little bit later.

After we got tired of hanging out there, we walked back to my place for another couple of glasses of wine. I introduced them to my new favorite reality TV show: MALL COPS! Okay, okay, before you judge you must understand that this show is (was? Is it still on the air? I watch it through Netflix so I have no idea whether or not it’s still on the air.) filmed at the Mall of America, which is located in a suburb of Minneapolis. I’ve found it extremely entertaining to watch reality TV that has been filmed at a place that I’m so familiar with.

I honestly don’t even remember going to sleep last night, which is somewhat strange because I don’t remember feeling all that drunk. I’m not even sure that I remember Rachel or Jeff leaving. Maybe my blood sugar got really low for a while and I didn’t notice it? I woke up with relatively high blood sugar, so it’s quite possible that my blood sugar got really low in the evening (low blood sugar causes your pancreas to release glucagon which is a hormone that causes your liver to turn glycogen stores into glucose, thus raising low blood sugar- often in diabetics this, in turn, causes a large spike in blood sugar). I do remember Dave bringing me a glass of water in bed before he left.

Hmm. Strange. I’ll have to ask him about the end of the evening when he wakes up today.

I don’t have anything planned for today! Maybe I’ll go rollerblading around the lake- that shouldn’t bother my knees.

We’ll see.

*Edit:

Jackie just stopped by- she and Luke put in an offer on a house! She said that they should have their counter offer by Wednesday. Can you believe it?! They’ve been dating since February and they’re buying a house together. They’ve been talking about this for months so I’m not surprised, I just can’t believe that it’s actually happening. There is a very good chance that I’ll be getting a big, fat check in a month or two to cover the rest of her rent through June… then I’ll be officially without a roommate!

It just feels so weird.
