The wheels keep turning…

It’s amazing how much can change in two and a half weeks.

Jackie and Luke are closing on the house and she’s officially moving out, my sister is moving in, I’m on the market for new living room furniture, my hair has been cut and colored, I’ve lost about 10lbs, Dave got a kitten.

He had mentioned to me the other day that he was thinking about getting a cat. We talked a bit about the pros and cons; and this morning I responded to a text that I’d received from him last night (while sleeping) about what he’d name a kitten. Just a moment ago I received another text that said, "Now I know why you won’t go to the Humane Society!"

He came home with a kitten. For whatever reason, this makes our break-up feel all that more real, all over again. Probably because we were going to get a dog together, and he is moving on with plans of his own without me (which I understand is inevitable and expected… it just feels funny). It’ll be good for him; he’s definitely a cat person, and it’ll be nice for him to have a little ball of fur to keep him company at home.

Here is the picture that he just sent me:

He said that the cat hasn’t stopped sprinting back and forth across his apartment, jumping at things, leaping into the air, and meowing. He mentioned naming him ‘Turbo Beast’ which is a fairly typical Dave pet name.

My week has been good. I hung out with Rachel and Jeff a couple of times, went out for dinner with Jackie and Luke, did happy hour on Friday with Kate, Shayna, and another girl whose name escapes me. Last night I dog sat for Kate (over night), which was fun but strange. I’m not supposed to have dogs in my apartment, so it was a struggle keeping her quiet and taking her out to use the bathroom. My neighbor across the hall found out about it because I inadvertently locked myself out this morning  when taking her for a walk, but he’s cool. I’m just happy that it was him that saw me and not somebody else… he’s the one that I gave my wireless password to, and I know that they’ve dog sat his wife’s mom’s dog at least once.

Today I did a little bit of couch shopping, but didn’t come home with anything. I’m feeling a bit discouraged because I didn’t want to spend $1000, but I want a neutral sectional with a chaise… much like the one that we currently have in our apartment. I know that Jackie said that she bought the one currently here at a discount center and paid about $800. They delivered. I went to a discount store today and couldn’t find anything even remotely similar to what I wanted, and nothing was under a thousand dollars.

I’ve also looked a little bit on craigslist (if I buy from there, of course I’ll need to check everything out first and be very picky), but the idea of having to come up with a way to move it here sounds unappealing- and of course there is then the issue of buying something previously owned (it’d need to come from a smoke-free, preferably pet-free home [yes, I have an animal and clearly am not against animals on the furniture, but I’m clean. I vacuum like a crazy person. Pet hair and pet smells are not acceptable to me, and my cat is declawed]). I mean, I could rent a U-haul and get somebody to help me move it, but that takes planning and on craigslist things seem to come and go rather quickly.

Anyway.

Next weekend I have Chloe’s daughter’s 1st birthday on Sunday; I’m really looking forward to that. That’s about the extent of my plans so far.

I’m out.

We got ours, which fits that description, at the RC Willey Outlet Store for about 800 this summer. I’ve seen similar ones at Costco on occasion, worth checking out online. 🙂

With furniture shopping…man. it’s hard. We went inexpensive because we have a dog and are expecting to have more than one child…which, with Brady being only one, we’ve had spit up, slobber, milk, juice, graham crackers…you name it, we’ve had it on our furniture…and it’s still comfortable! So, if you have a “gopher bargain center: or “unclaimed freight”, that’s where I would start.Or you could try the Albertville Outlet Mall. I’ve heard they have some nice things. Furniture is one of those things that should ast you a good amount of time. I would recommend microfiber. Easy to clean. And I totally understand the pet-free home…don’t want your animal peeing to cover up another animal…no matter how well you clean it. Good luck!!

I’ve been out of OD Land for a bit, and I came back to this! I’m sorry girl, this is so tough – but you seem to be doing okay. As hard as it is with the way you two broke up (no fireworks, explosions, murder) – it seems that it will work out for you to be close eventually. And I’m proud that you are both so caring and understanding of each other. I hope the pain is relieved soon…
