I should explain.  I’m a bookaholic, and have been collecting books to read since before I was old enough to remember.  Collecting them faster than I can read them.  And then … my dear friend died, and left me 55 boxes of books!  I’ve sold books on line, traded them in at the local UBS, and now am trading them in on BookMooch  I have a strict rule: no buying books!  If I can’t trade to get them, I don’t get them.  And so the mountain of books TBR in my room is slowly dwindling: it now stands at 884, down from 956.  Being locked in the house helps … plenty of time to read.

Because it’s occurred to me: I’m getting older.  I plan to live in this house until they carry me out on a board, but “The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men, Gang aft agley, An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain” and if it all went agley, what would I do with 900+ books?  (Not to mention all the clutter in the garage & the house)  So I’m working on whittling it all down so that if I have to move suddenly, I won’t have mountains and heaps and boxes of stuff to dispose of in two weeks.  After all, the 600 or so books I have in the bookcase in the front room that I want to keep are going to be problem enough …

@jaythesmartone Yes, some.  Also a whole shelf of vampire books — my friend was into them, I’m not.  I’ll get a list together tomorrow for you.

well I am not sure about the vampire but I was thinking something like Pierce Anthony and the like…or Stephen Donaldson?

I hear you!  I’m a bookaholic  with probably 2,000 books in this house and in my storage unit.  I could maybe bear to part with a fourth of them.  That leaves 1,500 books, and I might have to move in the next year or so!  🤔

I read a lot in spurts.  After i first retired I read 100 books in the first year.

Books are one thing I’ll never mind hoarding.
